Chapter 8 - Family, Matters

Donghua finally got up after a few hours. All he has on his mind is his Xiaobai. "Where is Xiaobai! Xiaobai... Xiaobai!" he cried in pain and started to cough out blood. "Donghua! Lay back down! You're in no state to get up. Did you forget you got struck by nine thousand ninety-eight bolts! I don't think you ever got hit by that many bolts before" ZheYan stated. "Where is she? Is she okay?" Donghua asked worryingly. "She's not in the best condition right now, she lost ninety-five percent of her cultivation and a lot of blood too. Then she got stroked by thunder. I'm afraid she will have a hard time recovering from this especially since she just recovered from the fight with Miao Luo." ZheYan sighed.

"If I hadn't taught her how to use those two spells she wouldn't have got hurt! It's all my fault!" he blames himself and while he's getting dizzy. "Don't blame yourself, it was her heavenly trial. But I never saw that many thunderbolts before being cast on. And I've asked MoYuan to look into this matter." ZheYan stated. "I need to be by her side. I need to be with her." he said while trying to get up and fail due to his pain. "Donghua you need to rest if you don't recover then how can you take care of Xiaojiu?" ZheYan scores at him. As Donghua tries to fight back he just loses consciousness again.

In Fengjiu's chamber, she lays in her bed almost without a trace of life. All her family members were standing surrounding her bed. "When will she wake up ZheYan?" the empress asks. "I don't know! It's up to her fate." he replies. "I'm so proud of her for saving everyone and Qingqui" BaiYi states. "Second Brother it's all your fault! You keep forcing her to grow up and take her responsibility as queen of Qingqui and look at what she's done now! She sacrificed her life. Is this what you wanted to see?" QianQian asked him while crying.

BaiYi looks so depressed from hearing the words of QianQian, because he has failed Fengjiu as a father. "Xiaowu you can't blame the second brother. You know that little fox would do anything to protect the ones she loves." BaiZhen says. "Is there nothing we can do at all ZheYan? Can we give her some of our cultivation like how we did for QianQian eighty thousand years ago?" the empress asks.

"Mother, unfortunately, that's not possible, a thousand years ago I sunk the island after I killed the four legendary beasts that were protecting the divine fungal grass... I'm very sorry mother" YeHua replies regretfully. "We can only wait and see if she come through to this..." ZheYan sadly said.

Later that night Gungun was crying non stop looking for her parents. Migu was looking after her while all the adults were trying to find a solution to heal their Xiaojiu. The old fox empress loudly called "Migu what is wrong?" she asked. He brought the little princess into the open chamber. "Empress, her little highness won't eat or drink anything at all. She wouldn't sleep either, I tried everything that I can." he reports. "My little princess, come over here." she said while waving her hands at Gungun. Everyone almost forgot that they had a little new member of their family.

"My little princess please don't cry. What is the matter?" the old fox empress asks. "I want, mother and father. Mother and father don't want Gungun anymore? Gungun got mother and father mad? Gungun will be good and listen!" she keeps on crying.

"Please don't cry, my little princess. Your mother and father are just very tired, they just need to sleep for a while. In the meantime, we will take care of you. So my little princess, what is your name..." the old empress asked and got interrupted.

"I am Bai Gungun!" she says while wiping away her own tears. You are very beautiful as mother, and who are you? " she replies in her sweet-talking ways.

The old empress laughs out loud "Everyone looks, she is just like her mother. I am the fox empress, you great grandmother." she says while pointing to herself. She then went around the room introducing all the other family members to Gungun. "He is BaiZhi, fox emperor, your great grandfather. Next is you BaiYi, your grandfather and she is your grandmother. Then BaiZhen, your fourth grand uncle. She is BaiQing, your grand aunt and he is Yehua, your grand uncle. And..." she was interrupted again. "It's okay she already knows that I'm ZheYan, we met in Bihai Cangling." he says.

"Gungun greets, great grandmother, great grandfather, grandfather, grandmother, fourth grand-uncle, grand aunt, grand uncle Yehua and ZheYan high god." she says while bowing to them all.

"Gungun, come over here and let grandfather take a good look at you." BaiYi said softly and waved her over. Gungun runs over to him and he pats her on the head. "You look exactly like your mother." he said with tears in his eyes. "She does indeed." her grandmother says.

"Gungun is so cute, she even has the same birthmark on her forehead." Qianqian says happily. She walks over and bends down to her eye level "you don't have to call me grand-aunt and him, grand-uncle. Just call me Gugu and just call him uncle Yehua. Okay?" she says.

"Qianqian how can you be such a bad influence as an elder. You can't teach her all the bad habits." BaiYi states. "Second brother, I don't want her to end up like her mother. I want her to be carefree from everything. I want her to be happy. Is it that hard?" Qianqian demands, with tears in her eyes.

"BaiYi it's okay with all those names and titles. She is still very young, don't let those bothersome, tie her down. Qianqian is right, just let her enjoy and grow up happily." BaiZhi scores at him. "That's right, she is our only great-grandchild in our family. Just let her be." the old fox empress agreed and sigh. "Yes father, mother. I will obey your wishes" BaiYi replies.

"Now that's settled. When A'Li sees you he will really like you." Qianqian says with a big smile. "Gugu, A'li is who?" Gungun asks. "A'Li is my son, and he is your little uncle. He's six hundred years old. I think you are almost the same age as him." Qianqian says curiously. "Gugu, Gungun is two hundred years old." she replies while holding two of her fingers up.

"Wow you're still so young no wonder you're so cute! Anyways, Gungun you must be tired now, come with me I'll take you to sleep." she says and takes her hand and walks off with her and Yehua.

"Migu from now on your responsibility is the little princess no matter what happens, you need to take good care of her. If you need more help around the den you can hire a few more people." said the old fox empress. "Migu understand, I will go to the Mushroom market to post the notice." he replies.
