Chapter 12 - Full Month

Ever since the day that YueLing is born, there have been blessings in the whole palace. Everyone from low-end servants to royal family members. It's almost the little princess's full month since her birth. The queen was under full protection from any harm, it seems like she was under house arrest. Even if there wasn't an attack, she is still weak and not full one month yet. In tradition a mother after given birth must not do anything but rest, so she can get back to full health. But as the queen of the country she hardly needs to do anything, which is kind of boring already.

Late one night, the king was still working late in his study, all of a sudden he had a heavy heart for no reason. He wants to brush it off, but he can't. He thinks he's probably under a lot of stress. So he decided to head over to the queen's chamber to get some relaxation. He told all the servants not to announce his arrival. He slowly watches her from far, he feels so relieved when he sees her motherly nurturing side. No matter what's bothering the king every time he's near her, he will forget everything. He walks in slowly and holds her from her back.

"Oh my, my majesty you startled me." she says in surprise. "My queen..." he whispers to his ears. "What's wrong? You look very stressful!" she whispers. "Yuan'er, what would it be like if we were just regular normal citizens? How does it feel like, to be free to do anything we want and don't have to worry about anything." he sighs. "My majesty, you haven't called me by that name for so long. No matter what you do I will always be the woman behind you to support any of your decisions." she whispers back.

"Yuan'er, I haven't heard you call me by my name for a long time. I really want to hear you call me that name." he whispers back. She turns around and looks into his eyes. "Nam gege." she blushingly says. "Yuan'er why are you blushing?" he asks her. " I'm not. I'm just... just... tired..." she turns away from him. "It is getting late, you should get some rest, you are still recovering." he says.

She walks towards the crib and places YueLing down gently. He holds her arm to guide her to the bed. She took off her outer robe and placed it to the side table then sat down on the bed. "My majesty are you going back to your study tonight?" she asks. "No, I am staying with you tonight, I've been neglecting you too much lately. I want to spend some time with Yuan'er." he said quietly. She smiles at him and helps him take off his robes and headwear. He sits down beside her on the bed and looks at her and cups her face.

"Yuan'er, you are the love of my life." he whispers and kisses her on the lips. "My majesty." she tries to move away but he grabs her at her waist. " I know you are still in confinement, so I won't do anything no matter how much I desire. Your health and happiness is my main concern." he said with a smile. They both lie down in the bed and he hugs her tightly to sleep.

When it's finally the full month, there was a big banquet being held in the banquet hall. Everything was being set up by Lady Yang and her people. She is a double face woman, she may look like a very nice and caring person but inside her heart, she is a jealous evil person. As she watches the servants set up the hall she's been thinking to herself;

"I am supposed to be the one that should be giving birth to his child, not that wench. If it wasn't for her to steal him from me I would have been the queen and today would have been my child's full month."

"My lady, everything is ready here, the dancers are all ready, the food is all prepared and ready to be served." says Lee Eunuch. "Good, I'm going to go back to the chamber to get ready. I'm going to leave everything else for you to take care of." she said softly.

She walks away trying to think of a way to ruin this evening. When she was changing into her banquet robes she thought of a plan. She quickly calls her head maid to summon Lee Eunuch to the chamber.

"Yes my lady, what are your wishes?" he asks. "Come over here." she says waving her hand. He walks over and she whispers into his ears.

When the banquet has started everyone except for the king, queen and princess are already seated in their designated spots. Lady Yang was sitting in the first seat on the left side and all the other concubines were scattered to the left and right side then followed by royal family members then the high ranking officials and generals. Everyone was enjoying the performances and gourmet foods and wines.

Shortly after, one of the eunuchs makes an announcement,

"Your majesty, Your queen and your little highness are arriving." he loudly says.

"Greetings to your majesty, wishing millions of years of prosperity. Greetings to your queen, and little highness, wishing thousands of years of prosperity." Everyone recites together.

"You all may rise and take your seats. Tonight it's just a casual family gathering to celebrate the little princess full month. So just enjoy the night and have fun." the king says.

The king was holding the little princess in his arm, and he sat down first. The queen was about to take her seat but the little princess started to cry out loud. The king couldn't stop YueLing so the queen took her into her arms. "Yueling... what's wrong, are you hungry or do you need to be changed? Please don't cry... are you not feeling well...?" she whispers to the little one. "My queen come and sit with me here, you're too far over there I can't even take care of either of you." he says while tapping on his seat. "My majesty but that's not proper rules" she says with respect. "It doesn't matter. I said it's a casual family gathering, so I say it is proper," he says and pulls her over to his seat.

She sat down beside him and he put his arm around her waist. At this moment YueLing stops crying and starts to giggle. He feeds her food and drinks from his table as she rocks YueLing in her arms. This happy couple keeps enjoying all the performance and gourmet food. As for the queen the king still forbids her from drinking wine even though the full month of confinement is up. The way that he cares for her is what everyone in his harem wants, but they will never be able to get.

On the left side, Lady Yang's anger and jealousy are building within her, as she watches the two love birds making a scene. She doesn't want to watch it anymore but she can't show this side of her in public. She continues to drink her wine and eat her food.

Close to the end of the banquet the queen is getting tired already. "My majesty, I'm getting a bit tired. I would like to retire to my chamber with YueLing if that's ok with your majesty?" she asks in a whispering voice so no one else can hear. "Are you not feeling well? I'll head back with you so I can take care of you." he whispers back. "My majesty you don't have to, I'm okay. You should stay here to enjoy the rest of the banquet with everyone." she says. "My queen, then I'll come and find you later after the banquet ends." "Okay my majesty. I'll take my leave now then." she says with a smile.

The king was holding YueLing while she was getting up from the seats, she missed steps and YueLing started to cry loudly again. When she was about to fall she was going to grab hold of the chair that she was supposed to be sitting in, for support. When the king saw her falling, he tried grabbing her hand but he was too late.

But luckily her head maid and another maid were there right beside her to grab a hold of her to prevent her from falling. Her head maid was holding tightly onto the queen's waist but the other maid lost her balance and she ended up sitting on the chair. The chair then broke into multiple pieces and she fell to the ground. "Quickly summon the physician." the queen yells out.

At this moment the king was so furious that the chair his queen was supposed to sit on, was that fragile. "WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WAS SAFE HERE?" he screams angrily.

Everyone in the banquet hall was freaking out and all fell down to their knees and begged for forgiveness. "Your majesty please calm down, I am fine nothing happened to me thanks to both of them saving me. Please calm down, please give mercy to them. Please do this for me or even for the little princess." she said quickly so nothing big would happen.

"XiaoWongZhi, I want a full investigation on what happened here!" the king says. "Stop Wong Eunuch, my majesty please just let it go, right now what is important is she is okay." she begs her king. "My queen, if I let this slide then what will happen in the future." he says with a strict face. "Please my majesty..." she begs. The king just looks into her eyes, he never wins when she begs, so he had to give in. "Okay I will let it go this time. Let us head back to the chamber." he says.

The eyes of Lady Yang were getting greener as the family of three walks away. In her mind, she keeps rampaging her thoughts;

"WHY! Why is she so lucky! All I want is to see her embarrassed herself in public or even better die! What does she have, that I don't have that he only has eyes for her?"

She holds her hands so hard into fits that she doesn't even notice her nails are digging into her skins and starts to bleed. Her head maid whispers to her "My lady, your hands!" as she worries for her.
