Neji x Reader- Braided Bonds

You stared silently at your lover as he focused on the movie that was playing on the television screen. To be honest, you had no idea what the movie was about, you had let him choose tonight's movie seeing as you had a plan. However, faced with the opportune time to enact your idea, you had begun to grow nervous.
"Is there something on my face?" Instantly you felt heat rush up your neck at having been caught by your ever-observant boyfriend.
"Sorry, Neji, I was just thinking." He paused the movie giving you his undivided attention. "What about, (Y/N)? You seemed pretty determined."

You fiddled with the corner of your shirt, trying to gather your words. This was the perfect time to ask, you couldn't pass it up. You dismissed your nerves and looked back up at him. "Your hair." He blinked, obviously a bit confused.
"M-my hair?" You nodded your determination back in full force. "Yeah, it just looks really soft." He tugged you into back into his chest, chuckling softly. "You can touch it if you want, (Y/N/N)." You grinned thinking of all the possibilities as he unpaused the movie.

You were a bit hesitant at first but you quickly grew more confident when you saw the pink appearing on his cheeks. You ran a hand through his thick locks, fascinated by how soft and silky they felt. "No fair," you muttered lowly, "my boyfriend has better hair than me." Neji laughed outright and your face went red at his laughter. "Neji! Don't laugh!" You pouted.
He laid his head down in your lap, giving you better access to his hair. He flashed you an innocent expression. "I would never! I was laughing at the movie, it's funny!" You pursed your lips. "Neji, you're watching a horror movie," You deadpanned.
Secretly, you were thrilled, however. In the eight months you'd been dating the two of you had never actually cuddled. You hadn't minded, you understood his hesitance for physical affection. But now that it was actually happening you were not going to pass that up.

Your hands found their way into his hair once again and he let out a quiet sigh of contentment. Your hands expertly combed through the brunette strands and gently massaged his scalp.
You had begun paying attention to the movie when an idea struck you. What would he look like with braids? You smiled excitedly and grabbed a small section of his hair and carefully weaved them together. In no time, you had made a small, tight braid, which would be the first of many.
Suddenly, the loud noises and screams of his movie startled you, causing you to flinch. It definitely didn't go unnoticed by Neji, who looked at you with concern.
"Do you want to watch something different, love?" Neji questioned. You finished the third mini braid, trying to slow your heart rate. "No... it's your turn to choose the movie." His lips tilted upwards. "I'm not really enjoying this movie, either." You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding, relieved.
"What do you want to watch?" He searched through your movie selection, more than a little indecisive. "Rapunzel?" You smirked. You could practically hear Neji roll his eyes when he groaned at your joke. "How about this, (Y/N)?"
You looked up from where you were diligently styling his hair to the screen. He had chosen 'Pirates of The Caribbean'. You'd never seen it before, but it looked good. "Looks great to me, Neji." He smiled, "Okay, then."

The movie was better than it sounded. Jack Sparrow was hilarious, the action was engrossing, and you enjoyed the romance quite a bit. However, none of it compared the magical moment you and Neji were sharing.
There were a multitude of thin braids scattered throughout his hair. You had made a large braid on the left side of his face, but plenty of his hair still hung loose. You lightly scratched his head and brushed the hair out of his face.
"Hey, Neji, I gave you braids," You stated proudly. But there was no answer. "Neji?" You whispered. You heard his even breathing and saw his closed his eyes. You giggled quietly, loving that he was so comfortable with you.
"Goodnight, Rapunzel."
