A Simple Smile- Gaara X Reader

You smiled as you finally reached the gates of Sunagakure. You had taken a minor mission to bring the Kazekage, Sabaku no Gaara a scroll about some treaty or another.

You'd grown up with him before you had to move to Konoha, and he was your best friend.

You were practically buzzing with excitement as you walked in the Kazekage building and even the monotonous security checks didn't have an effect on your mood.

You knocked twice on the large door, breath held, waiting to hear his voice. "Enter."

You all but burst in the door, a huge grin on your face. The redhead looked up in shock before a smile spread across his face.

"(Y/N)? What are you doing here?" You walked to his desk, handing him the scroll. "Lady Tsunade wanted me to bring this to you... and she said I could stay a few days if that's okay."

A smile overtook his stunning features. "You know that'd be more than okay, it's been a while since I've seen you last."

You sat on the couch against the wall as Gaara took a seat next to you. "I'll probably be here for three days at most. I wish I could visit more often too..."

You frowned, but it didn't stay long. You refused to spend the time you did have sulking.

"Besides all your Kazekage work, what have you been up to?" You were hoping Gaara managed to take breaks so he could relax, but the second he looked down, you knew he didn't "I haven't had much time to relax recently, Sunagakure has been very busy."

You eyed him for a moment. "I'm going to bring you to Konoha soon and you are going to relax." You declared. The redhead looked a little puzzled.

"What would I do there?" You grinned, listing all the fun activities he could try out. However, Gaara had zoned out as he stared at you.

The way your eyes twinkled, how your grin lit up the whole room, and how passionate you seemed. You seemed so invested in making sure he had ample time to recharge... no one had cared for him in such a way. He pushed aside the urge to clutch his chest at the odd fluttering feeling in his heart.

There was something, everything really, about you that captivated him. "Gaara? Are you listening? I asked if you-"

You froze as his arms wrapped around you. You had no idea where this was coming from. One second you were talking about taking him on a tour and the next he was hugging you?

"I'm sorry I wasn't listening... but you looked so perfect... is this okay?" Your face matched his hair as you felt his lips brush against your neck as you spoke. It was nothing short of a surprise to you that the boy who never hugged was so great at it.

"Y-yeah it is." Your arms tentatively went around his waist. "You really care that much about me having a break?"

You squeezed him tighter. "Of course I do! I l-" Your voice caught at what almost slipped. You shut your mouth tightly, hoping he let the slip slide.

But he didn't, instead, he gently pulled your back by your shoulders so he could see you. His seafoam eyes searched yours as if looking for some elaborate answer.

Cautiously, giving you plenty of time to back away, he lowered his lips to yours. You had read plenty of romance novels which had spoken of fireworks and how you couldn't think of anything but him, but it wasn't like that.

Instead of fireworks and sparks, it felt like peace. Everything slowed down and you felt as if all your stress had melted away.

    The second Gaara pulled away and saw your smile, the very smile he had fallen in love with, he knew he would be willing to go on a tour anywhere as long as it was with you.
