Second part will hopefully be out soon! :)

Itachi had always been extremely observant, maybe even too much for his own good. Ever since you had been introduced to Sasuke and Itachi when you were a child, he had been able to see right through you almost effortlessly.

Then again, you had never made it hard either. You had never bothered hiding your feelings from the ravenette, platonic or otherwise. In fact, everyone knew you were harboring a massive crush on the Uchiha.

Everyone but him, it seemed. All throughout your junior high years, you had been so obvious it hurt. You weren't shy with your affections, even when he brushed you off. And brush you off he did, like clockwork.

"Itachi! Do you know what day it is?!" In your peripheral vision, you saw Sasuke roll his eyes, but you ignored it, opting to focus on the amused smile his older brother wore. "Valentine's Day, correct?"

Your grin widened as you handed the homemade, elaborately decorated card you had been hiding behind you back. "Will you be my valentine?" His smile dimmed a little as he accepted the card.

"I've never celebrated Valentine's Day, (Y/N), why don't you ask Sasuke, I'm sure he'd say yes." You fought to keep the smile on your face as he patted your head before handing you the card and walking away.

Your lip trembled as Sasuke rested his hand on your shoulder. You had spent hours on the card and he hadn't even taken the time to read the note...

Once you reached high school you began to tone down your actions towards Itachi, even as your feelings grew. You hated yourself for it. All you wanted to do was move on and find someone else, but every time he'd give you a close eyed smile you'd be back at square one.
And still, he chose to ignore your feelings. Not reject them, simply pretend like he didn't notice them.

That hurt more to you. If he wasn't going to return your feelings, couldn't he at least reject you so you could get closure and find love? You really wanted to hate him for it but you couldn't. It was your senior year when you decided on one final try.

You swore to yourself that if this didn't work, you were going to forget about him, avoid him even.

"Is something troubling you, (Y/N)?" You smiled ruefully at his familiar perceptiveness. "Ah, I was just wondering, actually... if you'd go with me to prom since it's our last year and all..."

You immediately recognized the way his smile lessened and your heart dropped at the realization of the coming half rejection. "Sorry, (Y/N), but Izumi and I are going together already."

You nodded, your smile plastic and unconvincing. "Oh! That's cool..." You averted your eyes from his sympathetic smile. Shouldn't you be used to this heartache by now...?

Even though it hurt, you kept true to your promise and severed all ties with Itachi after you graduated from high school. You took a break from schooling, taking the year off to travel abroad.

It was enlightening and it was also space away from the person who continued to return your heart to you a little more damaged each time. You traveled all over (continent), learning new things, meeting new people, and you even managed to distance yourself from your damning feelings for Itachi.

That brings you to now, your first year of college. You and Sasuke had ended up at the same college, much to your delight. He'd always been your best friend and was always your shoulder to lean on no matter what.

                           O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O

"(Y/N)? You might wanna see this." You glanced from your phone to the worried-looking ravenette, who was also on his phone. "What is it, Sasuke?" Wordlessly, he shoved his phone in your face. You blinked, trying   to focus on the words.

It was a text from his mother, Mikoto, and it was an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner with the... Uchiha family. You froze for a moment as Sasuke put his phone away. "Do you want to go? I have to, but you don't."

You thought for a second. The Uchiha family had always treated you like you were one of their own, even when your own didn't. Granted, you had missed them quite a bit, however, you didn't want to see Itachi again, for fear that you would fall back into old feelings.

"You can't let him dominate your life, you know," Sasuke whispered, placing a hand on your shoulder. You knew he was right, you couldn't let one person disrupt your life.

"When do we leave?" You asked, a small smile tugging at your lips. The Uchiha smirked. "Hn. that's more like it. We'll leave next week."
