"K-Kiba!" You hid your face in your hands, appalled at his crude jokes. No matter how many times you had heard him tell a dirty 'joke' you would never be ready for them. You scowled as he laughed at your awkwardness, even though it really wasn't funny.

"Oh, c'mon, (Y/N), lighten up a little!" Akamaru barked in agreement, much to your further irritation. You looked away from him, deciding to focus on the mission at hand.

"W-we're on a mission, Kiba," You pouted. You saw him roll his eyes, but you were too busy to care. The sound of light footsteps reached your ears, putting you on high alert. From the way both Kiba and Akamaru tensed you could tell they had heard it too, not that you were surprised.

You jerked your chin to the source of the sound, your senbon in hand. He nodded once sharply and they silently followed you as you charged over to the spy. "It's an ambush," Kiba warned, sniffing the air.

You quickly formed the hand signs and placed your hands around your mouth, as if trying to project your voice. "Lightning Style: Magnetic Wave!" A sphere of electricity shot towards the group of who you assumed was enemy nin.

Screams almost reached your ears, but the sound of the explosion overshadowed them. Kiba blinked in surprise at the damage you had caused but swiftly snapped out of his stupor as the remaining rogues rushed the two of you.

Kiba had never been on a mission like this with you, meaning he hadn't had the chance to see you really fight. In his mind, you were jumpy and shy, but here he was seeing you on the offensive and kicking ass.

He'd be lying if he said he wasn't swooning the whole fight. In fact, he was seeing you in a whole new light. You were sweet and kind, but fierce and strong as well. He gawked as you took out two shinobi in one move, utterly impressed.

You looked over, just in time to see a kunai go straight through his torso. A scream ripped through both of your lips simultaneously, your voices accompanied by Akamaru's pained howl.

"KIBA!" You and Akamaru stood over your fallen comrade and managed to ward off the shinobi long enough to make an escape. "(Y-Y/N)..." You panicked as you watched blood spurt from between his lips.

"Don't try to talk! We have to get you back to Konoha..." With a bit of effort, you managed to place the brunette on Akamaru's back and you sat behind him, holding him up. "Please, Akamaru, we have to get him back to Tsunade-sama," You pleaded.

He didn't need to be told twice and with a bark, he was leaving the fallen ninja in the dust. "Open your eyes, Kiba! As your mission captain, I demand you to stay awake!" You felt your heart jolt as his bloodstained lips spread in a small smile.

"Sorry... ma'am." You breathed a small sigh of relief as his eyes blinked open, even if only slightly. "You're going to be fine, alright?" He frowned, his clouded eyes meeting yours. "I better be... since this is... your fault anyways..."

You winced as more blood left his mouth as he coughed. Your eyebrows furrowed as you processed his statement. "What? My fault? You're the one that got distracted!" You were struggling to slow the blood flow with nothing but a rag, and he was fading fast. Luckily, the mission had only taken place on the outskirts of the village.

"Yeah, distracted by you!" You gave him a look full of disbelief. "I did?" You were more than a little confused as to where your confidence was coming from, you usually tended to struggle to talk to Kiba, thanks to your oversized crush on him. Maybe it had something to do with him having a fatal wound.

"Yeah... you were fierce and hot..." You squeaked at his words, preparing to give him a piece of your mind when you realized that his eyes had closed.

"Kiba? Hey! You can't sleep yet, remember?!" Your heart clenched painfully as nothing happened. His breathing was ragged and shallow and you could tell he didn't have much time left.

"Hurry, Akamaru, he's getting worse!" The dog let out a pitiful whine and sped up. "Kiba, I swear to Kami, if you don't wake up, I'll show you just how fierce I can be!" He still didn't stir, and you could feel tears pricking at the corners of your eyes.

"(Y/N)?!" Your head snapped up at the familiar voices. "Kotetsu! Izumo! Please, let us in, he's hurt!" With worried glances, they immediately permitted the three of you in, and Akamaru raced through the gate.

"To the hospital, boy, hopefully, Tsunade-sama is there." He made a sharp turn towards your destination and within no time the building came into view.

"Hold on, Inuzuka, help is on the way," You murmured, brushing the blood away from his mouth. "(Y/N)!" You looked up, relieved to see Sakura. "Sakura! Kiba's been stabbed, can you help him?" Sakura gasped, looking over him.

"Follow me, Akamaru! HEY! WE NEED MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY!"  In seconds, medics were rushing to her aid, stretchers in tow. The next few minutes were a blur of loud commands, pushing, shoving, and just general chaos.

                                               O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O

About a half an hour later, Sakura rushed out into the waiting room, announcing that Kiba was stable. "Can I see him?" The pinkette looked around. "Is his family not here yet?" You shook your head sadly. "Tsume and Hana are on missions, but I don't think they've been notified yet."

She frowned at that. "Go on in, I'm going to contact the Inuzuka's." I bowed gratefully. "Thank you, Sakura." She grinned, waving as she left. You silently slipped in, shutting the door behind you.

"(Y/N)...?" You smiled ruefully, and now a bit shyly as well. "Hey... how are you feeling?" He smiled sheepishly. "I'm alright. Thank you for saving me." You shrugged awkwardly, sitting down across next to his bed.

"Ah, it was mostly Akamaru and the med nins." Akamaru nuzzled your leg, and you grinned, petting him.

"Give yourself some credit, (Y/N), you were a badass out there!" You smirked slightly. "Enough to distract you, right?"

You stifled your laugh behind your hand as his cheeks reddened. He nervously scratched behind his head and looked away.

"Look... I've never seen this side of you before and I- I really like it. I want to see more of it..." Now it was your turn to become flustered, but he continued on anyways.

"Maybe when I get out of here, we can go get lunch or something." A huge smile took over your face and you nodded eagerly. "I'd love to! So get healed up quickly, you dunce."

He laughed, his blush still matching yours. "Don't distract me then next time!"
