You couldn't help but frown at the familiar, but upsetting sight of your best friend, Kiba, chatting up yet another girl. The logical side of you knew you had no claim on him, you were only his best friend, still, that did nothing to lessen the ache that appeared every time another girl did.You had loved him for so long, you just wanted him to be happy and if being with someone else made him happy, you would willingly give him up. Still, would they be able to love him as you did?
Your thoughts were interrupted by a giggle coming from Kiba's newest companion. As if trying to add salt to the wound, after inviting you out for a day out on the town to hang out, he had picked up another girl on the way.
Every time she laughed the hand squeezing your heart got a little tighter. You huffed, no longer in the mood to deal with this. You knew Kiba was friendly and that he didn't pursue any of the girls he met, but they clearly wanted him to do so. What happened when he found a girl he really liked? You tried not to dwell on it.
"Hey, Kiba I'm a bit hungry so I'm going to go home for lunch. Are you coming or should I just see you tomorrow?" He didn't even acknowledge you, still invested in his side conversation.
Scoffing you left on your own, heart heavy and not hungry in the slightest. You wouldn't say you were jealous as much as tired. You were tired of harboring unrequited feelings and tired of being ignored this way every time you and Kiba went out.
As you wandered aimlessly through the village you came to a decision. If the Inuzuka couldn't be bothered to actually hang out with you when he invited you places you'd simply stop wasting your time.
O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O
It was easier said than done, however. It had only been a week and a half and you couldn't get the brunette out of your mind. He had come to your door a few times asking if you were free but you always had a predetermined excuse in mind as to why you couldn't go.
You could tell he was getting suspicious but you couldn't find it in yourself to give up on your plan, not yet. Your resolve, although strong, was slowly beginning to weaken. You began to question yourself, wondering why you were even putting yourself through this.
It was easy to remember when you saw him outside your window tightly hugging a girl you'd never seen before. You wanted to scream. Why couldn't he see your feelings?! You knew Kiba was a little oblivious, so you did your best to make it clear.
Or maybe... he did notice. Maybe all the girls were just his way of telling you that he felt nothing more than platonic love for you. Kami, how that thought hurt. No matter how much you tried to push it aside, the notion kept popping back into your head.
You laid on your bed, resigning yourself to yet another pity party. Your irritation was gone, and so was your sadness. Now you just felt good old fashioned rejection.
You startled, jumping to your feet immediately when you heard a loud tap on your window. You grabbed a kunai, stalking over to the glass pane.
You blinked confused when you laid eyes on a familiar brunette. "K-Kiba?! What the hell are you doing..." You saw the pebbles in his hands, your disbelief growing. "Throwing rocks at my window?!" The boy frowned, annoyed as if he was the victim in all this.
"If you don't come down, I'll find a way up there myself." He responded flatly. Akamaru barked in agreement with his serious owner. You gave him a dubious stare and his frown deepened.
"Fine. Don't say I didn't warn you," He muttered, starting his ascent up to the second-story window. "Have you lost it? You're going to get hurt!" Despite your frustration with him, you'd be crushed if anything happened to him.
"I told you to come downstairs or else I'd climb up. What'd you think was gonna happen?" You gasped, stumbling backward as he flung himself through your window, Akamaru in tow.
"Alright, mind explaining to me why you've been avoiding me all week?" Kiba crossed his arms, looking absolutely unamused. You gave him a look as you sat down on your bed. "I told you that I've been busy this week."
He growled, his fangs on full display. "Bullshit, (Y/N), and you know it. Does our friendship mean so little that you'd lie straight to my face as if I'm stupid?"
You paused, gathering your words as you stared into Kiba's angry gaze. "You're the one who ignores me whenever we go out!" You covered your mouth. That wasn't what you meant to say. He stepped closer, a look of horror in his face.
"I haven't been ignoring you..." He trailed off, unable to even confirm the statement in his own mind. "Yes, Kiba, you have. There's always some other girl that takes your attention and it's like I'm not even there and it hurts!" Kiba winded at the break in your voice.
"I didn't mean to hurt you, (Y/N/N), I never would..." He sat down next to you, hesitating a little. "To be honest... I asked Naruto for advice-" You couldn't stop the laugh that bubbles from your lips. "That was dumb," You admonished.
He chuckled sheepishly. "Yeah, I know that now. I was trying to... make you jealous..." Your jaw dropped at his words. Jealous...? You turned to him, the confusion clear on your face.
"Why? Why would you want to do that?" He smiled ruefully. "You know the reason, (Y/N)." You copped his cheek in your hand with the intent to keep his eyes glued to yours. You had the suspicion, now that he had admitted his 'plan' but still, you had to be sure.
"I want to hear you say it." He exhaled, his hand coming to rest over the one you had placed on his cheek. "I love you, (Y/N/N). So much. And I'm so sorry for hurting you."
Your forehead rested against his. "You're forgiven as long as you promise to never take love advice from Naruto again." The brunette cracked a toothy smile. "Promise."
Your lips met his in a feverish kiss that portrayed all the love and passion the two of you had for each other. "I love you too, Kiba."
