A Proper Response To a Long Time Criticism

So long ago, there was a criticism of the Chivalry of a Failed Knight fanfic I made that. . . Didn't quite feel like a criticism. It felt more of mockery, so I decided to reply.

But because I feel like the reply isn't good enough, I'mma do it here instead.

Now, please don't go and look for this person. I am just simply responding to a one year old comment that may have aged poorly.

Let us begin.

MC is weak and is a beta.

It's my first fanfiction and I wanted to do something not a lot of people do a lot, which was, you guessed it, a character that was actually weak. And surprisingly human. He gets hurt all the time, he gets into misunderstandings, he has thought processes, so on and so forth.

Just because your OC is the protagonist of a story, doesn't mean he has to be stupidly powerful. Sure, a lot of people like that, but it's getting old and repetitive, and subsequently, boring.

Also, I made Mesagi in such a way that he subverts the clichés of storytelling from an OC's perspective. In the Chivalry of a Failed Knight fanfic I made, for example, instead of having dead parents, he had parents that are alive and surprisingly well on their own. Mesagi's own Noble Arts, even if it seems overpowering on paper, in practice is very meh in comparison against everyone.

Yeah, nullifying everyone else's Noble Arts seem rather OP, but if their swordsmanship is better than Mesagi's, then Mesagi clearly loses against them.

The beta part, on the other hand, is part of his nature. I made him so that he respects woman as they are, but puts them as equals, not bowing down and kissing their feet.

Or in other words, a simp.

Speaking of which--

Bows down to anyone and lets girls trash him around.

Where. . . And when. . . Exactly did this happen? As far as I know, Mesagi has been going through his life without getting himself thrashed around by the female characters in the fanfic.

Garbage story.

In what perspective is it 'garbage'?

I don't know what's up with author's making such beta main characters.

That's because that gets the reads. What? You wanted a story where an overpowering OC is in a harem?

I don't like that kinda story.
