Why We Can't Be

"Adrien..." she mumbled. "I don't think you can love someone like me... I'm just a plain girl. I'm not Chloe. She's in your league a bit more and you've known each other since childhood. Plus, I don't think you love me because you were always infatuated by Ladybug." she said.

"But that's the thing, Marinette! I realise that I didn't love Ladybug, at least not until now. Despite you being an average girl, you've changed my life so much for the better and I know you're not the perfect girl I always made you out to be. I know you're just like me or anyone else and you're nothing special, generally speaking but... You've really flipped my world upside down. The reason you're amazing is because you're a normal girl who can do extraordinary things. That's why I'm in love with you. Don't you see? I understand you now. I want to be with you. I want to love you."

Everything that I had been feeling just came flooding out. I had been wanting to say this for a while now but I just didn't know how.

I watched her eyes widen in shock. She was stunned.

We remained silent for little bit, most likely pondering over what to say next since the next words would be critical to us.

"Adrien, you know I've felt so strongly about you for so long. I just never thought there'd be a day where you'd actually say that to me. I've always hoped you would and I've always imagined you reciprocating my feelings but with the way things are now, are we really in any position to be making such proclamations? I can't answer to being with you right now since your father is after me but I just want you to know, if it's of any worth, that I would be with you if our situation was normal," she said as she looked at me with a bit of sorrow lurking in her eyes.

"I understand..." I whispered.

She then got up to leave since she didn't have much time before my father would go looking for her. As she turned around, I gently took hold of her wrist. She turned around in surprise.

"But promise me this,

When we make it out of here,  promise me we'll be together for an eternity." I pleaded.

She smiled at me and said, "I can't promise you an eternity but I promise we will reunite after all this. I can keep that one."

I smiled. It wasn't the answer I was hoping for but it was a real answer. It came from her heart.

I watched as she slipped away from my grasp and I had my last bit of contact with her.

"Goodbye, Adrien." she said as she did my signature two-finger salute before letting herself fall from my window. She looked amazing before her grand exist. I felt a blush creep up my cheeks as I saw her take on my Chat Noir persona. I found it rather attractive, if I'm being honest.

I just hope all of this will be over soon because I'm not sure I can handle being far away from her for long. I want to fight side by side with her again. I want to look into her blue orbs again and see my future.
