3 months later

"Good Morning A5." Lucy chirped as she strolled into the subject's room, he twisted his body around to face her.

"Mornin' Lucy," A5's voice sounded raspy as if he hadn't drunk anything in a while "What tests do I have today then?"

"Quite a few, " She went on to explain the tests but A5 zoned out, instead of focusing on her words he focused on her. She wore a peach gloss on her plump lips and her cheeks we're their usual rosy shade. Rather than scraping her long red hair into a bun, she let it fall past her shoulders. Every time he saw her his stomach filled with butterflies and he felt like a kid in a candy shop, he had never felt like this about anyone before and he didn't know what to do. All he knew was that Lucy was damn near irresistible at this point.

"A5?" He snapped back to reality and saw she was now right in front of him, their faces about one foot away from each other. A5's cheeks instantly flushed a vibrant red.

"Y-yeah." He stuttered. What's wrong with me, I never stutter, he thought.

"Did you listen to a word I just said?" He tensed up at her angryish tone.

"Of course I did." A5 tried to sound sure but he didn't know whether he was trying to convince Lucy or himself.

"What did I say then." Lucy gained a sheepish smirk, she knew he hadn't been listening she just wanted to see what crappy answer he'd give.

"You said..." he paused for a second as he desperately tried to think of something to say, "You said that I'm your favourite subject in the world?" He knew she didn't say that but he hoped she'd just let it pass.

"Whatever, " She giggled, sending A5's heart into overdrive, "I said that we have to go for your tests now.. and yes you are my favourite subject," Lucy whispered the last bit but he still heard. Maybe she feels the same way I do, the thought turned his cheeks from red to a deep crimson.

They stood there in A5's room for a moment just staring into each other's eyes. Lucy knew they had to get going but she couldn't help but get lost in his deep brown orbs, they truly were mesmerising.

Her head went back to the conversation she had with Janson a few months ago.

"Remember what I said, Lucy." He rolled his hand in a circle gesturing for her to finish the sentence.

She took a deep sigh as if she didn't want to finish it but she did. "Don't get attached to subject A5." After that, she walked back to her room for the night.

She coughed lightly and they both snapped out of their trance, both looking just as flustered as the other.

"We need to go, come on." With that, she hurried out the big steel door and A5 followed closely behind.

The day went by in a blur of needles, pen clicks and multiple different adults trying to talk to her all at once. She had tried to be polite and answer them all but at one point she just walked away from them. A5 had tried to go after her to make sure she was okay but was instantaneously stopped, he could see her through one of the large windows of the lab he was being tested in.

Lucy rested her body against a wall with one salty tear travelling down her cheek, she quickly wiped it away when she realised it was there.

"Are you alright Lucy?" Janson's usual calm tone was replaced with worry as he saw Lucy upset.

"I-I'm fine sir, " She stopped to look up at his raised eyebrows "Not sir." He nodded as he pulled Lucy in for a hug which she didn't pull away from.

He laid his arms around her neck and rested his chin on the top of her head, she wrapped her short arms around his waist and buried her face deep in his chest. More tears escaped her eyes so he shielded her face so nobody would see, however, a certain blond-haired boy saw her crying through the window but the thing that made his blood boil was the man he despised more than anything hugging her. That should be me hugging her not him, he thought and a wave of jealousy enveloped him.

"What's wrong?" Janson's voice was compassionate and as Lucy looked up at him his eyes softened with the sight of her red, puffy eyes.

"Nothing, I just got overwhelmed and.. and." The thought of even saying what she was thinking made her feel sick and her breathing quickened.

"Just breathe." He repeated quietly into her ear and she did as told until her breathing went back to normal.

"Subject A5 goes is going to be in The Maze this time next week." She said sadly, her voice got quieter after every single word. She didn't want to admit it to anyone but she had fallen for the boy and the thought of her not being able to see him every day didn't allow her to her smile.

"Ahh, I see," He sighed as he pulled away from the embrace and placed his hands on her shoulders "I did tell you not to get attached."

All Lucy did was nod, she began to head back to the lab until Janson spoke again. He was worried that this boy could turn Lucy against WICKED.

"Lucy.." She turned to face Janson "WICKED is good."

"WICKED is good." She didn't offer any smile as she continued to walk into the lab where A5 and the other scientists we're waiting for her.

"I trust you carried on with the tests, " she looked up to the adults who just looked between one another "Well did you?" The harshness in her voice shocked A5.

"We have almost completed today tests, Miss." Lucy nodded as she retook her spot beside A5, he glared at her with a look she had never seen him wear before

"What?" Her voice was almost kinder when she spoke to him.

"Why were you hugging him?" His voice was thickly laced with disgust when he said 'him'.

"Why does it matter?" She asked curiously.

He was about to answer until a doctor shoved a needle into his arm and he flinched slightly and as if on instinct Lucy's fingers moulded into his in a comforting way. If he was in a more comfortable environment he would've pulled his hand away even if he hadn't of wanted too, but right now he needed the comfort... her comfort.
