The forest was quiet, about the only place in the Glade that was. The only noise present was the rustle and snap of leaves and twigs under my boots and the calming sound of flowing water in the small stream. A few birds chirped and sang, adding to the whimsical feel of the Deadheads as Alby had called them - well about as whimsical as a place with the name Deadheads can be.
A shot of pain ran up my leg telling me I had to rest for a minute, the slight pain it caused made me wince quietly. About a week ago Clint had said I was alright to walk around on my own again but on occasion my ankle still gave me trouble. I found my way to a nearby tree and sat down, one knee brought to my chest and the other laid flat in front of me. My head rested backwards onto the bark and for a second it seemed to be completely silent.
An almost unnoticeable clicking sound rang in my ears, I open my eyes to be met with small, silvery lizard thing with beady red eyes staring straight at me.
"What are you?" I asked as if it would respond. I look at it a little longer, unknowingly reaching my hand out towards it. When my hand was mere centimetres away a loud voice booms from a couple meters away.
"Don't touch that Greenie!" Newt's familiar accent warns, running towards me as quick as he could.
The small thing scuttles away, "You scared it off!" I groan, frustration laced my words.
"Yeah and you scared me, if you touched that thing it woulda eaten ya hand straight off." He explained as he approached me, "It's called a beetle blade."
"Yeah right it was the size of one of my fingers, I had more chance of eating it." I scoff and begin to stand up, almost falling flat on my face after getting my leg caught on a twig.
Newt caught my body before I had the chance to fall over and placed his hands on my upper-arms as I regained my balance, "Ya know what Greenie, next time ya try touch one I'll bloody let ya." He smirked sheepishly before returning his hands back to his side.
A moment of silence was enough to make me uncomfortable, "How'd you know I was out here anyway?"
He remained silent and in way that was enough of an answer.
"You didn't follow me, did you?" I turned to look at him but his eye remained on the path in front of us.
"Would it be so bad if I did?" He questioned, still keeping his eyes forward.
"Yes, it's creepy to follow people into a forest." I giggled and hoped he understood I was only being a tad bit serious about the creepy part.
"Well then I guess I'm creepy, and it's a good thing I did anyway. If I didn't it would've been another injury to add to your list." He glanced down to my ankle, "Is it any better?"
"It's getting there, Archie's been helping me get it back to how it was so that helps a lot." I explained, earning a sour look from Newt, "What was that for?"
"What was what for?" He acted innocent, raising one of his eyebrows.
I watched him for a second, "That look, that look right there." I pointed to his face and poked his cheek teasingly.
"Yeah what about it, Greenbean?" He carried on playing dumb. Does he think I'm that stupid? I thought.
"You know what, it doesn't matter anymore." I give up trying to push the subject seeing as I clearly wasn't going to get anything out of him.
