Lucy's pov

My eyes open slowly as if I was still in a dream and the world was in slow-mo. The sky outside is still dark and dotted with a few, faint stars. A light breeze flows in through the ajar door a couple of metres away from me, sweat and the overall smell of boys that I'm slowly becoming accustomed too penetrates my nostrils. I look around to see I'm the only one awake so I decide to go for a walk.

The feel of wet, dewy grass against my toes sends a calm feeling throughout my system. The previously soft breeze was heavier now and blew my hair behind my shoulders, it cooled my face down and for the first time since I got here, I felt truly calm. Well as calm as I can be when I'm stuck in the middle of a huge maze with about 50 boys.

My mood instantly changed when I remembered what I was doing to today. Yesterday the thought of going out into the Maze excited me but now I felt slight dread, what did Newt mean by he didn't want to risk having me out there?

I started wandering around the Glade aimlessly, waiting for everyone to wake up. I made my way to the closed Maze door, the North door to be precise. I sit there with my knees hugging my chest and my head leaning back onto the stone wall. I close my eyes and just breathe in the simple scent of the Glade, the smell of animals, crops, dirt.

About 5 minutes of comfortable silence with myself goes by until a body slumps down beside me and I hadn't realised how cold I was until their warm skin hit mine. I didn't open my eyes until I heard them speak.

"Lu, I wanted to say sorry for,"

"Why are you awake Archie?" I say bluntly, not returning nicknames.

"You woke me up." He sighed through his nose, turning his head to look at my side profile.

"What do you want me to do about it? Sing you a lullaby and put you back to bed? It's not my fault you wake up easily." I rolled my eyes and sarcasm dripped off of every word I said.

"I never said I did, you're the one that asked." He scoffed and turned his eyes away from me.

"Whatever." I close my eyes again and take in a big sigh "Why were you so bothered that Gally and I were talking."

My question must've caught him off guard because I felt his body next to mine tense up in a millisecond. A breath got trapped in his throat.

"I don't know, I just don't want him doing anything to hurt you again."

"He didn't hurt me, see I'm fine." I gesture to my body and without me knowing Archie took a lookup and down.

"He cut your cheek." Archie pointed to my already scabbed over cheek.

"Yeah, and it's already better, no need to worry about me." I turn to look at him but he had beaten me too it, his eyes entranced with mine. Seconds pass and a comfortable silence fell upon us. Before I could ask him about him running out of the Homestead last night he began talking.

"We should get some breakfast, runners leave as soon as the doors open." Archie stumbles to his feet and offers a hand to help me up which I take.

We collect breakfast and anything we'd need for the day and meet up with Minho at the west wall.

"You ready Greenie?" Minho eyes my sleepy figure but I shake my head awake.

"Absolutely." I roll my shoulders in preparation for the door to open.

With a crack and a whir the wall opens, a slither of the Maze becoming visible and more and more of the dark ivy-covered corridors comes into view. The first time I had seen the walls move was probably my most embarrassing moment since getting here, screaming like a pathetic little girl and jumping about 5 feet in the air but over the past couple days, I had slowly become used to it.
