Song » Slow dancing in a burning room by John Mayer

1
"I've been awake since four o'clock, since four in the morning, Isabelle," Liv complained and sat down next to her in the lecture hall. "When I was in Abu Dhabi, I couldn't wake up at eight in the morning because I was tired, it was four in the morning in the UK. Now I'm back, and I wake up at four in the morning?! What a disaster, my goodness."

Isabelle looked at Liv. "Good afternoon to you too," she calmly said. "You look tired."

Liv looked at her and rolled her eyes. "Do you have the results of your exams already?"

"Nope." Isabelle closed the Tupperware tray where she stored food in. "Oliver wants to hear your story as well, so we have some kind of snacking thing at my house after school. Save everything you haven't told me yet for this afternoon."

"Yes, ma'am." Liv grabbed her laptop and placed it on the small table in front of her. "Did I miss some gossip or other stuff I absolutely need to know?"

Isabelle was thinking about the past week. "Neh, apart from the fact Yasmin is pregnant, not really."

The eyes of Liv grew. "What?!"

"Shh, she can hear it," Isabelle chuckled. Both of the girls looked in the direction of Yasmin. "But it turns out Marcus is the dad."

"I never knew they were dating."

"They are not."

It became quiet in the hall as soon the professor entered the area. Liv frowned. "That's odd," she whispered, and her eyes fell on her mum who happened to be the professor. "Oh, yeah, great." Isabelle looked at her and smirked.

"Good afternoon everyone, my name is Amelia Di Costa and I will replacing professor Marquina for the day, he sadly has a fever."

"Well, this is awkward," Isabelle teased and smiled widely when she saw Liv's embarrassment.

It was uncommon to have family members at the same college, but Liv thought it was a safe choice to still go to this college. The idea was that her mother would lecture other classes and worked more behind the scenes, and it worked, for more than a year, until now. It felt odd for Liv to see her own mum in front of the class, talking about sociology and acting professionally. That wasn't how Liv knew her mum. Of course, she heard her talking about school and on the phone from home, but not like this.

Liv was scrolling through her photo's and Isabelle was looking at it too. It surely was a beautiful memory, it was a memory Liv never would forget. A smile grew on her face when she saw photos she took with Lando, or photo's with Isa, or Flo, or Cisca, or the rest of the family and friends. Or photo's of the area around the track and Abu Dhabi itself.

"There are no words to describe how jealous I am," Isabelle whispered and kept focusing on all the photos. "That looks so cool."

"I know right," Liv sighed satisfied. "And here we are, in rainy England."

Both of the girls giggled.

"Olivia Di Costa!"

It became silence in the hall. Liv sat straight up and looked down at her mother and...and the principal. Blood raised to Liv cheeks. "Yes?" It became worse when she noticed almost the whole class was looking into her direction.

"Can I talk to you?" Meredith Fender politely asked and smiled. The principal wrapped her fingers together in front of her stomach. "It won't take long."

Liv looked at her mother and back at Meredith. "Yes, of course." She grabbed her bag and shove her laptop in it. It may not take long, according to Meredith, but bringing her stuff with her was just to be sure. People still looked at her when she made her way towards the principal. Yes, I'm the daughter of Amelia Di Costa. She pressed a smile on her lips.
