"Are you sure you're not hurt?" Stell asked as he placed the food tray on the table.
Shirley smiled. She took her straw and took a sip of grapefruit ade. "I told you, there's nothing to worry about. I got used to stumbling ever since I was young."
"Really?" His eyes widened as he took a sip of his iced bean latté. "Tell me about it."
"Nothing too serious." She chuckled. "I was flat-footed before and my feet felt very stiff. You know, the weight isn't balanced and stuff. Thankfully, my father helped me get through it, and now I love obstacle course racing more than anything else."
"You're awesome. I m-mean, that's awesome but yeah y-you're awesome too." He quickly sipped on his drink to save himself from embarrassment.
"Well, thanks. That's so appreciative of you, I guess?" A cute smile escaped on her lips.
Seeing the way she speaks and talks about her own story made her even more attractive in Stell's eyes. Never in his life, he had felt something so glorious towards a person.
"How about you?" She asked, her eyes looking directly at his, giving him the type of stare that would make his heart melt any minute from now.
"O-oh me? I don't have much to tell. My life's kind of boring, you know?" He hesitated, which was the best thing to do. It's indeed true that he didn't have any story to tell that wouldn't make her run away.
Just imagine telling the girl you like that you have the ability to see the next two minutes. She will probably scream and create chaos in 2 seconds.
"But I do like singing." The idea suddenly popped inside his mind. Talk about anything besides the past and his ability, then everything will be alright.
"You do? We better visit the karaoke later." Her face lit up in excitement. "I don't have much talent in singing, but I do love singing my heart out."
"Sure." He answered with no second thoughts. He knew it from the time he recognized her. This day and the upcoming days will be all for her, and all with her.
"Okay. 7:00 PM at the karaoke bar?" Leaning forward, she gave Stell one of those charming smiles of hers.
"Sounds great." Not thinking if he had something to do that night, he fully agreed with Shirley. He's completely lost in her eyes and would probably agree with everything she'd say.
After moments of chatting and laughing at each other's jokes, they exchanged phone numbers and bid a sweet goodbye to each other.
Best afternoon in my life, he thought. Little did he know, the best is yet to come.
Stell decided to visit Josh in his apartment after receiving his text, inviting him to play an Xbox game. Ken was already in his apartment, resting and sipping tea to cure his hangover.
"Hindi (no). I swear I didn't use my ability. She straight up showed up in the perfect timing." The sound of gunshots from the game echoed inside the room.
"Oh, crap--" Josh cursed as someone almost shoots him dead. "Fine, I believe you. I was just kidding--dude I need backup."
"Jeez, that guy almost shoot you to death." Stell healed him after shooting the player who was trying to kill Josh. "Wait, I cannot find any gas mask."
Josh was back on the game after being healed, "Thanks, Stell. You truly are my guardian."
Guardians--transcendent people can also be guardians for the innocent ones. Josh knew Stell would be his guardian after knowing about his ability. The skies wouldn't have let them meet without a reason.
