It was time for your second lesson on shapeshifting. Yet again you stood on the sandy beach, shielded from the harsh light by the high cliff wall that rose next to the woodland area.
Aizawa, with the help of Perry's notes, explained that you should be able to transform into almost any kind of animal without needing contact. Quirks where more difficult to copy, that was the reason the physical contact is needed for that aspect.
"Give it a go...any type of animal. Try to envision it, or whatever you need to do bla bla bla..." Aizawa droned, flipping through the notes carelessly.
"Gee thanks, sir." You sarcastically remarked. You closed your eyes, feeling the sand between your toes. 'Best to start off small' you thought. As you attempted to shift, you felt your power draining like a health bar in a video game. The energy required was immense.
You opened your eyes gasping for air. Looking around you seemed to be trapped under...some form of net? No it was your clothes. You managed to scramble out from underneath them.
Aizawa towered above you. He picked you up by the scruff of your neck. "A chipmunk? Is that you trying to be funny?"
You tried to speak up and defend yourself but realised you couldn't...'stupid chipmunk' you mentally scolded yourself.
"Pathetic." Aizawa narrowed his eyes at you before placing you in the open palms of the extremely excited Perry. She cuddled you to her face before gently placing you back in the sand next to your pile of clothes.
Tuning around so that his back was to you, Aizawa harshly sighed. "Ok turn back and try again with something...more impressive."
You shifted back to human form, sitting exposed in the sand. Returning to your normal body felt like letting out a breath that you'd been holding. You shuddered lightly as the crisp sea air hit your stomach, glad that it was a secluded beach where no one could see you on full display.
"You got something against chipmunks, sir? I was quite proud of that considering it was my first time." You huffed, folding your arms across yourself protectively.
"Just shift again." Even when he was turned away from you you could feel his sassy eye roll.
"You focused on shifting to something slightly bigger. When you opened your eyes again you gave a small 'meow'. Aizawa whipped around to see a cat sat in front of him. He crouched down in front of you.
"Better." He smiled slightly and patted you on the head. "Right, I'm going back to the house to sleep. Keep working on it hero." He stood up and sluggishly made his way through the tree line.
"So he's a cat person, huh?" You laughed as you turned back to yourself. Perry silently giggled behind her hand.
You changed back into your clothes and went for a walk across the beach, kicking your feet through the waves as you wondered through the shallow waters. "Perry? Is there a mythic quirk for every type of mythical creature?"
She tipped her head to the side, contemplating the question. She then smiled widely before taking a notebook and pen from the pocket of her shirt.
She scribbled something down briefly before handing it to you to read.
I guess. I haven't met many, We stay well hidden.
"Do you think there's one for...Mermaids?" You asked hopefully. Your eyes glistened with youthful excitement.
Perry giggled at your childishness before nodding and patting you gently on the head.
You both continued to walk through the surf. Revelling in the clear air and quiet lulling of the waters around your ankles.
