Desperation

The cold winter air nips at my eternally cold skin as I walk along the side of whatever this high way is.  I'm not even sure how long i've been walking, but it was better than sitting at my forever abandoned house all night.  Since my whole family has died, I guess you could say my house was rather depressing to be in.

A loud scream sounds out from across the block, quickly snapping me out of my thoughts.  Normal people definitely wouldn't have been able to hear that from this far away, but I guess that's just a vampire perk.

Well, if all else fails, I'll get a midnight snack out of this.

So with that, I sigh and run at an inhuman speed in the direction of the scream I'd heard seconds ago.  Of course going straight to where I'd heard it would take all of the fun out of the kill, so instead I simply peek around the corner of the building looking over at two men standing in the deep dark alley, one standing at gun point and one holding the gun.

"Give me the money!  I d- don't want to have to kill you!"  I roll my eyes at how stupid this is.  This guy holding the gun obviously isn't going to kill him.  That's what I never understood about the human race, why talk about killing them the whole time when you could just shoot them and get it over with?

Growing bored, I go to turn away before something one of them says catches my attention.  "P-please.  My wife is pregnant, and we've spent nearly all of our money on the supplies.  I don't have any cash!"

Guilt grows in my stomach at the thought of just leaving the poor guy there.  He didn't ask for this, it was the other man's fault any ways.  Why pass up a good midnight snack and also causing a child to grow up without a father?  No, I couldn't let that happen.  I may have been eighteen when my dad died, but living without him even then hurt me too much to describe.

Hastily, I speed over to where they are and swiftly knock the gun out of the man's hand causing him to stumble backwards.  "W-who the hell are you?"  His voice shakes with fear that he's trying too hard to mask causing me to give a cynical smile.  Humans are incredulous sometimes, its hard to believe I was once one.

Grabbing a fist full of the man's shirt I pull him roughly towards me making sure to show him my pointed fangs.  "Someone you would much rather not have run into tonight."  My voice is dark and brooding making myself seem rather professional right now.  With that, I slice my teeth into his neck letting out a slight moan as his thick, rich blood drains into my throat slowly easing the thirst that had been just clawing at me all day.

Within seconds, the man is dead and I drop his lifeless body onto the ground with a loud thud.

When I turn around, I'm shocked to see the other man still standing there with eyes as wide as saucers.  I can hear how is heart is pounding faster and harder than the average human's should, and I can't help but linger on the way the blood pumping through his veins intrigued my thirst yet again.  I quickly snap myself out of the tiny trance and go to help him up.

He looks up at me yet again with his mouth opening like he wants to say something.  I wish he'd just get it over with rather than making me stay here.  I'm not supposed to be the good guy right now.  I killed a man, honestly how is he not running for his life.  "T-thank you."

My eyebrows knit together in confusion.  Thank you/?  Not a 'what the hell are you?'  "MONSTER!!'?  "Thank you?"  My voice is just dripping with confusion as I look down on him.  I was expecting him to run away with that considering red beaming eyes staring down at you in a dark alley at nearly 1 am.

To my own bewilderment, he chuckles.  He actually chuckles.  "That's what I said.  You're supposed to say you're welcome."  Okay now I'm really confused.  Why isn't he scared of me?  This is quite frustrating now actually.
