Arnold Shortman x Orphan! reader (Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie)

(Y/n) [Part 1]

No one's p.o.v

We all know the stories of everyone in Arnold's life, but do we know one little girl in general?? Not yet, so let's focus on her right now. Little (Y/n), who doesn't know a thing about her parents, since she grew up at an orphanage. All the kids there didn't talk to her, so she asked the people in charge of the orphanage a favor. Despite having all of these children to talk to, she wanted to go to public school instead. The people in charge talked it over, agreed, and signed her up for public school in kindergarten.

(Y/n) was as happy as can be, but no one talked to her then either, she sighed, but noticed a girl all alone as she was sitting at a table. Her smile grew up again as she skipped over to the girl, not knowing that this girl is Helga G Pataki. Some kids tried to warn her under their breath, loud enough for her to hear, but she didn't understand. Helga looked up at (Y/n), scoffed and asked "what do you want?" (Y/n) smiled at Helga and offered her hand. "Hi, I'm (Y/n)... do you want to be my friend??" (Y/n) introduced herself as nicely as she could.

Helga was shocked, but rolled her eyes saying "I don't shake hands with people" (Y/n) looked at her hand, then up at Helga without ruining her smile. "Good thing this is a sideways high-five!" (Y/n) says with a bit of attitude, wanting some type of confirmation that she has a new friend. Helga raised half of her unibrow like she was raising an eyebrow, snickered and sideways high-fived her. "You got guts.... I like that, want to go to the swings at recess?" Helga asks (Y/n), who agreed. Since then, a lot of kids wanted to be friends with (Y/n), since she was able to handle Helga easily.

-first grade-

(Y/n) wasn't only friends with a lot of kids, but she noticed Arnold helping Gerald, a friend she made the other day, so she smiled. "Hey Gerald, how're you doing??" (Y/n) asked, Gerald smiled big saying "I made a new friend. He helped me with standing up to Harold!" (Y/n) playfully rolled her eyes "well, at least someone helped. You were this close to wussing out of that fight and never coming to school" (Y/n) teased Gerald. Arnold smiled saying "hi, I'm Arnold, I don't think we've met" (Y/n) smiled back saying "I'm (Y/n), and no, we haven't."

Gerald wraps his arm around (Y/n)'s shoulders saying "this is the friend I was telling you about, she helped me open up around people." Arnold smiled even bigger saying "I'm glad, or else we wouldn't be friends, well not this soon at least." (Y/n) giggled and says "well, I should check up and hang out with others, but we should all hang out soon." Arnold and Gerald agreed, so (Y/n) waved a goodbye as she went to talk with Helga about stuff.

-second grade-

Word somehow got out to the kids at the orphanage about (Y/n) having a lot of friends, most likely from the adults being happy for her. So.... she started to get picked on, kids were saying stuff like "I bet you bribed those kids." Every now and again she got "probably just having her as a backup friend" which made (Y/n) a bit sad. The next day she went to school, she didn't smile as much as she usually would, but acted happy around friends. She also dismissed the idea of something being wrong whenever someone asked her.

Gerald finally told Arnold, who was got done helping a random kid, so Arnold frowned at the sound of (Y/n) probably not being okay. When she was walking home from school, he followed her saying "hey (Y/n)" she smiled at him. "Hey Arnold" (Y/n) responded with her smile, so Arnold says "what's up?" (Y/n) looked off to the side. Memories of what the orphan kids said to her started coming back to her, so she shakes her head. Clearing her thoughts, she smiles and says "nothing much, what about you??" Arnold's eyebrows furrowed.

"Just wondering if you're doing okay, the others have been noticing you not being as happy as you usually are" Arnold says and kicks a can. That can flew into a recycling bin somehow (save the turtles-) making the two smile at the shot. (Y/n) giggled and ran towards the park saying "let's play!" Arnold smiles and runs after her. Helga being in the background, growling at the scene, but hears Brainy breathing behind her. We already know she punches him, so let's get back to (Y/n) and Arnold, who are on the swings.

They swung as high as they could as they laughed, but (Y/n) opened her eyes after swinging for so long, and sees one of the kids from the orphanage. It looked like she laughed at (Y/n), then went to the other parts of the playground to play. (Y/n) cringed on the inside at getting laughed at, but didn't realize she accidentally let go. She screamed as she flew into the pond, which made Arnold gasp and run after (Y/n). "Are you okay?!" Arnold asked as he finally reached the pond, sure it was shallow, but it went up to their waists.

(Y/n) coughed, but sees the kid from the orphanage standing behind Arnold, laughing as she says "I just wanted to see you off. I actually got to leave home, later loser!" She laughed and started to walk away, Arnold glares at her. "Come on" Arnold says and helps (Y/n) out of the pond, (Y/n) watched as Arnold chased after the girl. "Arnold, wait!" (Y/n) says, not wanting him to get himself hurt or in trouble, since that was the strongest kid at the orphanage. The girl turned back to see Arnold having his hands in fists, but he kept them down as he glared at her.

"That wasn't very nice" Arnold says angered, making the girl laugh "so?? I don't think I was trying to be nice, Football-head." (Y/n) slowly walks over to the two, but stayed quiet as she watched the scene unfold. "You should apologize, (Y/n) hasn't done anything wrong to you" Arnold says while softening his glare. The girl looked at Arnold, then to (Y/n) and laughed more "why should I?" She asks out annoyingly confused. Arnold sighs and says "because some people have a hard time, you shouldn't be a part of (Y/n)'s."
