I held the Poké Ball out and pressed the button on the front. The top of the ball opened up and a ball of light flew out and landed on the ground in front of me.
The light quickly formed into a Pokémon. Chikorita stood on four stubby legs. It had a green body and a dark green leaf extending from the top of its head. The Pokémon looked around, confused. It noticed me and smiled at me.
"Hi, Chikorita!" I waved at the small pokemon. "I'm your new trainer!"
I looked up to see that Silver had sent out his Totodile. The Pokémon was small and its primary color was dark blue. It had a large jaw with sharp teeth and red spikes going down its back to its short tail.
The Totodile was hopping from one foot to another and smiling widely. "This is awesome. We're officially Pokémon Trainers now, Gold." Silver said.
Blue smirked. "Smart choice with the grass type kid, I'm guessing you picked second." Blue mused.
I looked up at him with a raised eyebrow. "Huh? Nah, I just picked Chikorita because my dad's first Pokémon was Chikorita." I said.
Silver nodded. "And I just like Totodile."
"Are you kids kidding me?" Blue sighed. "Nobody appreciates Cyndaquil anymore."
"Alright Silver, you ready?" I asked. Excitement flowed through me as I prepared for my first battle ever.
Silver smiled at me. "Let's do it Gold! You can go first since it's your birthday and all!"
"Ok, here we go!" I planned out my first move. "Chikorita use Vine Whip!" Two of the buds around Chikorita's neck extended and two large green vines rushed forward at Totodile.
"Totodile use Scratch to counter the vines!" Silver told his Pokémon. Totodile grinned and the tips of his claws began to glow white. Totodile smacked one of the vines away but the other one struck him in the side.
Chikorita retracted its vines and turned back to smile at me. I gave it a thumbs up. "Great work, Chikorita!"
"Totodile, use Water Gun at the ground!" Silver's Pokémon opened its mouth and he fired water at the ground, kicking up dirt right in front of Chikorita. "Now use Scratch!"
I tried to formulate a plan as Chikorita looked around at the dirt cloud in front of it. "Chikorita, play on the defensive!" I said as Totodile rushed through the dirt and struck Chikorita in the face with one of its claws.
Totodile didn't let up and hit Chikorita twice more. I grit my teeth as Chikorita cried out but realized there was not an opening. "Now Chikorita, use Tackle!" Chikorita threw her body forward and slammed directly into Totodile, throwing him back toward Silver.
Totodile stood back up, no longer smiling. It was covered in minor scratches from the previous attacks. "Totodile, keep it together!" Silver encouraged.
"Chikorita hit them with another Vine Whip!" My Pokémon quickly sent its two vines out from its body and at Totodile. The vines went to both of Totodile's sides and closed in on it.
Silver bit his lip. "Use Scratch to defend!" Totodile put both of his arms to his sides and blocked the vines. It was clearly struggling to hold the attack back.
I had an idea on how to finish things. "Chikorita, keep your vines there and charge in for a Tackle!" Chikorita rushed forward while pressing the vines against Totodile.
"Use Water Gun, quick!" Silver shouted. His Pokémon opened its mouth widely and fired a blast of water at Chikorita. Chikorita pushed through the attack and continued to close the gap. "Hit her with Scratch! Quickly!"
