The three of us were able to hop on a boat heading to Cianwood fairly easily. I stood next to Lillie and Silver on the side of the boat, feeling the salty air blowing in my face.
I held onto the guard rail with one hand and my hat with the other. "This is awesome!" I shouted against the wind.
The boat sped past one of the Whirl Islands and a couple of Swimmers before Cianwood City came into view.
"Johto is such a fascinating region," Lillie mused, looking down at the ocean beneath us.
Silver was gripping the rail tightly with both of his hands. My friend was taking deliberate breaths and kept his face down.
I tapped him on the shoulder. "You alright, buddy?"
Silver gently turned his head to me. He looked miserable and kept his mouth clamped shut.
Fortunately for Silver, the boat began to slow down as we approached the City on the Island. Mountains surrounded the sandy beach and a couple of buildings dotted the small landmass.
The ship came to a stop at a narrow wooden dock branching out into the ocean. We thanked the captain and jumped off of the boat.
My feet sunk into the ground while we walked on the sand towards the gym and the sun beat down into the back of my neck. Even during the fall, this island seemed to be extremely warm.
Silver slightly fanned himself while sweat slid down his face. "Man, it's a scorcher."
Lillie looked us up and down. "I was confused as to why you guys were dressed so warm. Is it really that cold everywhere else?"
I shrugged. "Depends. You're from Alola though, so you might get caught off guard by how cold it can get."
"I've got plenty of warmer clothes, don't you worry," Lillie assured me, gesturing to her pink bag.
Our new friend seemed to get more and more confident the more I talked to her, which was a relief. I didn't want Silver to have to steer every conversation between the two of us.
The beach air was hot and dry so we didn't waste much time getting to the gym. We pushed open the door and were greeted by a blast of cool air.
A roaring sound flooded my ears as I stepped into the building. Looking around I saw giant rocks lining the walls with water pouring from the top, creating waterfalls that pooled on the ground and created a small basin in the center of the room.
The Gym was decorated like a mountain spring, with little branches poking out of the rocks and some trees placed in the water.
A massive waterfall poured down on a man sitting cross-legged at the back of the room. The referee noticed us enter and pressed a button, shutting off the large waterfall and revealing the gym leader.
The man was shirtless and had a large and bulky build. The Gym Leader was shorter than I had anticipated but stood with a great level of pride.
He brushed some water off of his head and smiled at us. "Welcome, challengers! I am the Gym Leader of Cianwood City! The name's Chuck! Whoever is first, step forward!" Chuck boomed.
Chuck had a friendly energy to him that made me excited about the battle that was about to take place. I walked to the edge of the water basin. "I'm Gold, and I'm going to be the Johto and Kanto Champion!"
Chuck laughed. "I like your spirit! This'll be a double battle, so pick two Pokémon! Last trainer standing, wins!"
A double battle? I've never had one of those before... Chuck uses Fighting Types, so who do I have that work well together and don't lose against Fighting Pokémon?
