I woke up early in the morning and as I regained my senses I realized that today was the day of the Opening Ceremony.
I got dressed into the outfit I had started off in and planned out which Pokémon I would use in the battle.
Silver woke up a little later than me and we ventured out of our room and into the city. The final preparations for the festival seemed to be underway.
People stood on ladders and attached strings to the sides of buildings. The strings held up paper lanterns made in various shapes and sizes.
Morty was standing in the center of the town and chatting with someone. He noticed us and waved us over.
We walked up to him and the person he was talking to strode away. "Good morning Gold and Silver."
"Heya, Morty! You ready for the festival?" I asked.
"Indeed I am," Morty said. "The Opening Ceremony will start soon. I hope you are prepared for your battle."
I nodded. "Sure am! Everyone's gonna love watching us fight!"
We lingered with Morty while we waited for the rest of the town to wake up. People started to fill the streets and man the shops set up all over the city.
Eventually, Morty signaled for me to come to one end of the town's center. The dirt field was quickly being surrounded by festival-goers. I noticed Jess and Eusine were in the crowd.
Meanwhile, Alex emerged from the mass of people and took his place on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Morty went to the center of the field and got the crowd's attention. "Hello everyone! Thank you for coming here for the opening of the fifth annual Rainbow Festival!"
People began to applaud and cheer. I noticed just how many people were here. It seemed like dozens upon dozens of people had gathered.
Morty waited for the applause to die down before continuing. "To mark the beginning of this festival, I have gathered two powerful trainers here for a battle!" I was surprised by how well Morty spoke to the crowd. I would have thought this was completely out of his element.
"First, we have Alex! The famous trainer who once called this town his home!" Morty gestured to his friend and the crowd began to erupt with applause. "And facing off against him is the up and coming trainer, Gold!"
The applause I got was noticeably less than that of Alex but I still felt my heart rate rise as the cheers filled my ears.
Morty began to step back to the sideline. "This will be a two on two battle! No substitution will be allowed! When the trainers are ready, let the battle... begin!"
Alex and I sent out our first Pokémon to be greeted with another roar of applause. I had chosen Heracross to battle and Alex had picked Pinsir.
Pinsir was a large grey Pokémon who was built like a bug and had two giant pinchers on its head.
"Pinsir," Alex said, wasting no time. "Use X-Scissor!" Pinsir made an X with its arms and they started to glow.
Pinsir lumbered forward on his bulky leads towards Heracross. "Heracross, counter with Brick Break!"
Heracross met Pinsir with his own arm attack and the two collided before both falling back slightly. "Vice Grip!" Pinsir quickly bent its head and grabbed Heracross in its pinchers.
Heracross thrashed about while Pinsir continued to apply pressure to him. "Heracross use Megahorn!" I instructed. Heracross adjusted his body and slammed his horn into Pinsir's head. "Brick Break!"
