It was late in the day when Silver and I reached the National Park. We had left Goldenrod shortly after beating the gym and started heading to Ecruteak City.

We were planning on making camp for the night in the park and set our supplies down on the brick ground.

There was some grass near us on one end and a fence enclosing the park on the other. Street lights began to shine and brighten the park as the sun descended below the horizon.

Silver and I set everything up and enjoyed the cloudless sky above. It hadn't gotten too cold yet and we could take in the ambiance of the night.

Silver had yet to settle down and was standing around in the grass with his Eevee. "Ok, Eevee! No more playtime, we gotta get some sleep!" He said.

Silver's Eevee came running back to him but I noticed a dark figure was following closely behind. Silver seemed to notice too and narrowed his eyes. "Eevee, turn around, and use Swift!"

Silver's Pokemon hesitated for a moment but quickly whipped around and fired stars into the grass.

A Pokémon yelped when it was struck by the attack and hobbled out of the grass. The small fox Pokémon shook its red fur out and batted its many tails about.

"That's a Vulpix!" I pointed out.

"Hmm," Silver said. "I think we could use a Vulpix. Ready Eevee? Use Quick Attack!" His Eevee dashed at the Vulpix and rammed into it, knocking it down.

Silver reached into his back pocket and pulled out a Great Ball. "Here goes," He said and he tossed the ball into the wild Pokémon.

The Great Ball shook a few times before clicking to signify he had caught his target. Silver retrieved the ball and pat Eevee on his head. "Nice work, Eevee!"

Suddenly, Eevee began to glow. The Pokémon's body grew in size and became sleeker. When the glowing subsided, Silver's Pokémon now had black fur and red eyes with bright yellow rings on its body that seemed to give off light.

"T-that's an Umbreon!" I said with my mouth agape.

A grin quickly formed on Silver's face. "This is so cool! Eevee became an Umbreon!"

I tried to keep a positive look on my face and stared down at my bag where my Pokémon were located. "I wonder how come none of my Pokémon have evolved yet."

"Well think about it," Silver said while he returned his Pokémon and got ready to sleep. "You've got 5 Pokémon, I only had 3 up until right now so each only gets to battle a little."

"I guess that makes sense," I said and with that, we went to bed.

That next morning we gathered our things and immediately continued on our way to Ecruteak. We only had one more day to get there before the Rainbow Festival and I didn't want to risk missing it.

We exited the park and started walking down a dirt path when a trainer challenged Silver to a battle. Silver sent out his newly evolved Umbreon and made quick work of the opposing trainer.

I felt the familiar feeling of my Poké Ball shaking and Eevee broke free from hers and run over to Umbreon. The two Pokémon started to speak and then Eevee began to shout something at me in Pokémon language.

Silver's head shot up. "Oh! I think I know what they're saying! They want to battle each other because Umbreon evolved!"

"Sounds good to me. It's been a while since we battled anyway. What do you say we make it more interesting too?" I offered.

Silver seemed perplexed. "Hm?"

"We each use three Pokémon. Elimination style so first to two wins gets the victory." I explained.
