Chapter Thirty Eight- Golden Opportunity Part One

Red kicked off the battle by sending out his trusty Wartortle. Wartortle stood on two legs and most of its body was dark blue. He had a bushy tail and sharp fangs as well.

Red's Wartortle was well known for its brash and aggressive battle style. It could infamously use its shell defense to block almost any attack and usually beat several Pokémon if the opponent didn't have a plan.

I decided to kick things off with Electabuzz so we could hopefully overwhelm the sweeper with power.

The giant screens around us changed to show pictures of Electabuzz and Wartortle for the battle and then swapped to numerous camera angles of the battle.

Electabuzz took in the feel of the large crowd and they started cheering for him while he played off their energy. The first move was all ours. "Electabuzz use Thunderbolt!"

Electricity from my Pokémon flew through the air and across the battlefield. Use Rapid Spin to deflect it! Red's voice appeared in my mind.

Wartortle took to his shell and started spinning around. The electricity bounced harmlessly off of the shell and Wartortle began approaching while spinning.

Wartortle spun through the wetlands and splashed through the puddles. "Geez, how do we stop him? Try Brick Break!"

Electabuzz met Wartortle head-on and slammed his fist against the spinning shell. Electabuzz stopped Red's Pokémon in his tracks momentarily but it broke through his defense and struck my Pokémon before speeding past him.

Wartortle hopped out of his shell and turned to face Electabuzz. Use Hydro Pump! My eyes widened and I half screamed my next command. "Light Screen!" Electabuzz conjured a barrier around his body just as Wartortle started firing high-velocity water at him.

The water's effects were halved by the screen but I could tell they still did a lot of damage. Let's wrap this up with Skull Bash! Wartortle tucked its head into his shell and started charging the devastating blow.

We need to get past its defenses and stop it! I realized. "Electabuzz hit it away with Thunder Punch! Go!" Electabuzz wound up his fist and slammed it into Wartortle.

The move seemed to do little and Wartortle continued charging his move. "Thunder Punch again! Get him out of here!" I shouted.

My Pokémon picked up on my desperation and punched Wartortle's underbelly, throwing it into the air in the process.

Wartortle started flailing its limbs. Calm down. Land with Ice Beam. "Oh no you don't! Electabuzz use Thunderbolt!"

Electabuzz was standing in a puddle as he charged up the attack which seemed to amplify the electricity considerably. The powerful move hit Wartortle from above.

Wartortle crash-landed on the ground looking pretty beat. Rapid Spin again! I felt dread wash over me as it started spinning over to us again, cutting through the puddles on its shell.

My eyes widened. The puddles! That's it! "Electabuzz run over to a puddle and prepare to use Thunder Punch!" I advised. Red raised an eyebrow while Electabuzz carried out my command.

Wartortle got closer and closer to us. Just a little more... now! "Hit it in the stomach and flip him over!" Wartortle get out of there! Red told his Pokémon as he realized what was about to happen.

Electabuzz dragged his fist on the ground and swung upward, flipping over Wartortle while they were both still in the pond. "Now use Thunderbolt and don't hold back!"

My Electric Type grabbed hold of Wartortle to keep it from escaping and prepared to unleash his attack. Thunder clouds started appearing above him and a bolt of lightning struck Electabuzz.
