When the party ended, hindi na rin nagtagal si Leion sa loob kaya umalis na rin kami. Parang hindi talaga s'ya interesado sa lahat ng nandoon.
I shrugged the thought. Hindi naman talaga sociable si Leion. Mukhang wala talaga s'yang kaibigan kahit sa mga mas matatanda roon.
I even saw famous boys from St. Agatha University at tibgin ko naman ay kilala n'ya rin pero hindi naman kinausap nang matagal.
"Parents mo? Wala sila sa party?" I asked when we finally got inside his car.
Hindi ako nilingon ni Leion. Mukhang wala s'yang interes sa topic na 'yon pero sinagot din naman ang tanong ko.
"Nando'n sila." Tipid n'yang sagot.
But of course, I asked him again.
"Bakit hindi kayo nagkita or nag-usap?"
"Do we need to?" Malamig n'yang sabi and it gave me a hint that he doesn't have good relationship with his parents.
Napanguso na lang ako at tumanaw sa labas. I fully understand the situation. I had flings who had bad relationships with their parents too. Awful, pero hahayaan mo bang diktahan nito ang buhay mo?
"Nabasa ko sa article... nagkaro'n ka na ng girlfriend?" I asked, shifting the topic to a lighter one.
Napakunot ang noo ni Leion.
"So?" He asked.
"Wala lang. Hindi ko ma-imagine." I laughed. "Niligawan mo o s'ya ang nanligaw?" I asked.
"I courted her, Nicodaine." Aniya.
Nanlaki ang mga mata ko.
"Really?" Gulat kong tanong. "Paano?" I asked.
Leion sighed.
"Peer pressure." He explained kahit hindi naman 'yon ang tinatanong ko. "My friends already got their own girlfriends and they told me to get one too." Aniya.
"So? Hindi mo talaga gusto 'yung girl?" I asked.
"She's nice." He shrugged.
"Does that mean, you like her?" Pangungulit ko, may pang-aasar sa boses.
Pero hindi na sumagot si Leion. Mukhang ayaw nang magsalita pa dahil hindi gusto ang topic. Not because he's irritated, more like he's bored with the topic.
"C'mon, Leion. Nagustuhan mo? Tumagal kayo?" I asked.
"We were young. Hanggang Grade 8 lang." He said.
"Ang tagal!" Manghang sabi ko. "Hindi mo pa s'ya gusto sa lagay na 'yon?!" I laughed.
"No." He said. "She was persistent."
"Persistent... like she wouldn't let you go?" Hula ko.
Tumango si Leion at napa-iling ako.
"You're mean." I said and Leion glanced at me, frowning.
"Bakit? You think, I'm the perfect guy they always thought I was?" Irap n'ya.
Napatawa ako. Does he hate it? Being called and branded as 'perfect'?
