Yue is sitting on the edge of the bed while He Di sits on the floor in between her legs. She is giving him a haircut, that way they can save on money. They have managed to get a good system going, saving where ever they can for the bigger dreams they have in mind. He Di pays for their room, food and rickshaw rides, while Yue uses her money to buy them clothes for their act. Two months have passed since they first met and their connection continues to grow stronger.
"Make sure you make me look handsome."
"That won't be difficult, you are so good looking that my eyes start to strain from staring at you too long."
He Di blushes, he always does when she compliments him in this weirdly frank way. Yue is a no nonsense girl showing a hard edge to most people, but to him she is this delightful combination of sharp wit and fluffy softness, like a cute kitten with retracted claws. It makes him feel special.
"You are so good to me Yue...such a good woman."
"You are just sweet on me honey." She says, blushing hard.
Whenever He Di says such things to her, she will try to downplay it with a casual come back, but inside she is all gooey from his appreciation. His pure heart is addictive to her.
"Of course I'm sweet on you." He replies.
"Well you are a sugar cane plantation, so I can see why."
He Di laughs heartily at this. She really does say the craziest things.
"Careful, don't move your head too much, I don't want to cut your ear off. What will shield my hair from the rain if your ears are gone? They mean the world to my hair."
He Di guffaws loudly and good naturedly as she teases him about the fact that his ears stick out. She always has an outrageous use for different parts of his body, and some explanation as to why a part on her body can't live without it. The other day she spoke of how his eyelashes were born to tickle her cheeks whenever he kissed her face, or how her toes were designed to massage his calves whenever they cuddle in bed. The list goes on and He Di can't get enough of the way her mind works.
As she finishes up the last touches of his hair cut, there is a knock on the door.
"Are you expecting anybody?" Asks He Di, looking up at Yue.
"No...maybe it's Mrs Xi, the landlady?"
Yue stands up and dusts the stray hairs off her lap. She goes to answer the door and stands there looking shocked, when she sees who it is.
"Chao Xing? What are you doing here?"
"Good to see you too Yue. Aren't you going to give your little sister a hug?"
"Uh...sure." Yue gives her a quick hug. "How long are you planning to be in Shanghai?" She asks, eyeing her sister's suitcase suspiciously.
"Indefinitely you could say. I was hoping that I could stay here with you?"
