Author's note: please read.
Hello fellow peeps! Happy Easter!
So, I owe an explanation to yet again the lateness of the update. So I have a couple excuses...One is that I refuse to publish a chapter until I am satisfied with what I tell in it. When I had outlined this chapter it was really short, and I've been struggling to find a way to make it longer. I feel as though I shouldn't publish something it isn't my very best work. Turns out I couldn't find a way and here is the best I could do haha; under one thousand words. The next chapter will probably also be similar.
The other reason is because my in real life has been quite a mess. I started my first semester at college in January, and in the middle of the semester I became depressed. The cause wasn't actually the schooling, it was a combination of a lot of things that have been happening in my life (part of which is my own sad love story). My effort in school declined, and basically all motivation and inspiration for writing also stopped. Luckily recently I've been sort of getting over it. I've improved my grades, the semester ends this next week, and I'm getting better.
If you're still reading this (either to this point in my author's note or still reading this slowly updated book) thank you for your patience and support. I love writing for the community and I appreciate your kindness. Ten-ish more chapters are on the way, please enjoy.
This chapter has 742 words and I don't own the Nintendo characters, just the plot and the other characters.
P.S: It might be beneficial to reread the previous chapter in order to understand the context of this one.
-West
It took Link a couple seconds to realize that his mouth was hanging open in surprise. He slowly gained his composure as he continued to stare at Gordon. He stammered, asking his next question.
"My...my parents had another child?"
"They did," Gordon leaned in closer. "You would have known him for...around four years."
Still in shock, Link slowly shook his head, "why is my memory so frayed?"
"Everyone's memory eventually leaves them concerning certain things," Gordon shrugged. "You were only six when we retrieved you. Not many kids would be able to remember everything about their family if they had been taken from them at such a young age."
Link pondered the new information silently. He had another younger brother. If he was two years younger than him, his brother should be around 15 years old by now. His siblings were also probably still with his parents. Even more the reason that he should find them as soon as possible.
"So how could I find them?"
Gordon stroked his beard, "I'm not entirely sure. You must understand, your parents had moved themselves and your siblings out of Hyrule once we took you from them. I haven't been thoroughly informed since that happened."
Link sighed, perhaps he was getting excited for nothing. Once they had left Hyrule, no one would be monitoring his family anymore. That meant that they could have moved again without any officials in Hyrule knowing. "Very well. Do you happen to know where they had moved to?"
"I believe they moved to Termina. Out of our reach...and out of our interest really. We try not to step over country boundaries unless on formal and urgent affairs. I'm afraid to say that's all I know about their whereabouts." Gordon shrugged and frowned sympathetically as he turned his head to avoid Link's disappointed gaze.
Link tried to hide his surprise. Of all places, why would my family move there? I don't know much about Termina, except that that is where Prince Alart is from. It seems as though I may have to leave Hyrule as I feared in order to get them back.
As the determined realization came to him, Link couldn't help but clutch his stomach from a sudden nausea that came over him.
"Are you alright?" Gordon asked, eyeing him.
Link sighed and released him stomach. "I'll be fine. Thank you for telling me this, I intend on finding them as soon as possible. Though I'm not entirely sure how I will be able to; I'm not sure I can identify Aryll. It has been several years after all."
"I have faith you can do it, "Gordon said as he leaned forward and placed his arm on Link's shoulder. He smiled warmly, "Good luck. I need to be off though. Don't be hesitant to call upon me if you need anything."
A servant rushed into the office, "Sir Link! I've been looking for you."
Gordon raised an eyebrow at the servant. "We were attempting to have a private conversation. What news do you bring?"
The servant was panting as he looked at Link, "her highness, Princess Zelda requests your presence."
Link groaned. He was about to leave to finally find Aryll and his brother. This was the worst possible timing he could have asked for.
"I..."
Can't...He couldn't bring himself to say it. Finding his siblings was now his highest priority, but dishonoring the wishes of the Princess in front of two who served the throne would not be wise.
"I'll be on my way," Link advised the servant.
"She expects you to knock at her quarters." The servant gave a quick bow and exited.
"Thank you for your service as a knight of Hyrule," Gordon commended as Link stood up from his seat. "I will be saddened to see you leave, but I completely understand as I consider your situation."
"Thank you." As Link closed the door behind him he looked up at the sky in agony. How was he going to break away from his commitment to the throne?
How will her highness react to this? He sighed to himself. Sure she would be disappointed that he would have to leave, but her involving him was more a recreational pastime than a formal responsibility of his. Today he would simply need to tell her he would be leaving, and he could be on his way.
At least that's what he hoped. He made his way towards the castle.
