Zelda, Joseph, Will and Jacob had been searching for Link and Cobalt in vain. They had given descriptions of them, and though many of the townsfolk reported that they had seen them earlier in the day, none of them knew where they had left to.

They decided to have some food at a cozy looking restaurant to rest and think.

Joseph sighed, sitting across from Zelda. "How is it that no one knows where they are?"

"They must have left in a hurry," Jacob pointed out. "Perhaps they learned where Link's siblings were and immediately left. These people are looking out for their own lives, they're not worried about some strangers that came to town."

Zelda groaned and laid her head on the table. "I thought this would be easier."

"Do not despair your highness," Will said cheerfully. "I'm sure Link is around her somewhere. We don't need to be in any real hurry, he's not in danger."

"Why did we rush here then?" Joseph asked.

"I didn't want to loose his trail," Zelda said, sitting up again and taking another sip of her soup. "We do need to find him quickly because if he learns if his siblings are not here, he may have leave Termina."

"Unless he decides to help prince Loticus with his investigation," Jacob said. "They're still here I'm sure."

Zelda shook her head in doubt. "I feel as though we would have found them already."

"Perhaps prince Alart will find them," Will suggested.

Zelda whipped her head to look at Will. "That's it," she realized. "He sent us over to this side because he doesn't want us to find them."

The three knights looked confused and Zelda elaborated. "He kept us separate, using the excuse that I needed protection being a princess, but he was worried about something, I could see it."

Link's friends looked at each other worriedly. "We find Alart then," Joseph said as he stood from the table, not finishing his meal. The rest followed suit and exited the restaurant. They briskly walked towards the castle entrances.

I will help you Link, Zelda decided. Whether you like it or not.

Link woke up groggily with a solid pain on the top of his head. He was chained by his hands to the wall of the cell and was cut in several places and bleeding quite seriously. Alart's doing, no doubt.

Cobalt was chained next to him in a similar state, though still unconscious.

"Cobalt...Cobalt!"

His friend didn't move, and Link prayed that he was not dead. He called out Aryll's name several times at the top of his lungs, but no one answered him.

He must have moved her to a cell upstairs.

He thought of Aryll, his sister, and sobbed, knowing he had failed her. He had prepared, finally arrived at Termina, only to be taken by surprise once he had found her. He had been so close to saving her and his brother. He pictured Aryll in his mind's eye and only then realized how much she looked like Zelda.

Zelda.

It felt like an eternity since he had last let himself think of her. And finally, he didn't care enough to keep his feelings locked up anymore.

He thought of the last time he had seen her. Her green eyes had looked at him longingly, pleadingly. Like she wanted him to do something, but she was too shy to ask him with words.

Several sobs escaped his mouth as he slumped down against the wall. He loved her. He loved a princess. A pathetic, treacherous, and dangerous wish. He was a knight, a person of no importance. What did he expect to happen?

Even so, he found himself regretting that he hadn't told her of his leaving. He even wished that he had been bold enough to tell her he loved her. But that opportunity was gone now. He would never see her again; he would never see anyone again.

Footsteps sounded from outside the hallway, coming down the stairs. Link sniffled and pulled himself to his knees, facing the doorway. Alart was coming, and he needed to know why Aryll was suffering under the hand of Termina's royal family.

Cobalt rustled beside him and Link whispered to him, "Alart is coming."

Cobalt's rustling became louder and soon he was wide awake and glaring at the doorway, also on his knees. The door opened and the evil prince walked in, swinging his arms.

"So you're awake," he said with a small chuckle. "Very well. I take personal satisfaction upon seeing the horror on the faces of those I kill after I explain to them my reasons for doing so." He unsheathed his sword and crept towards them, "you two attempted to free a prisoner of the jail. That crime in Termina is punishable by death."

"Bastard," Link grumbled as he tried to pull his chains free from the wall in attempt to get at Alart.

The man just laughed, "I knew you'd always be pathetic, boy."

"Why do you have my sister in jail?" Link wheezed, feeling dizzy from the loss of blood. "Why does my brother not free her?"

Alart chuckled again and squatted down until he was eye level with Link. "You really don't know what's going on, do you lad?"

"Care to tell me?"

Cobalt leaned over to Link, "think about it Link. He's the connection to your siblings, to Termina, and to Hyrule." Link glanced over at Cobalt, who looked apologetic in his eyes.

Link thought for a moment, and suddenly realized who this man was. He looked up at Alart with clenched teeth and an angered brow.

His evil grin never faded. "Link, I am your father."
