January finished with solemn regards. Then February entered with sharp wind chills and a snowy landscape. Under the clear and cloudless blue sky some jubilant teenage boys lunge snowballs towards each other. Others are lunging fists.

It's just another ordinary afternoon at Jeju Juvenile Detention Center. Today In Seop, Seo Hyuk, and other apes from Du Ho's gorilla gang just burnt my notes from class.

With a heavy sigh I go to Wooyoung, who's making a small snowman right next to the weight lifting space. To his left stands Kang Yeosang sauntering around the barbells. Despite the negative temperature, he exposes his shirt showcasing a half nude body of a Greek god. On both sides of the barbell he slides a fifty kilogram weight and secures them on each end. Laying down on the pole he does some reps with tiny beads of sweat trickling down his forehead.

A young police officer sees him naked and walks over to him. Gently tapping his shoulder he says, "Yeosang please put a shirt on, it's cold."

"But it's not cold at all Officer Yoo. Lifting barbells generates lots of sweat you know."

Crossing his arms he gave a sigh of exasperation, "Wear your uniform after you finish. I should see you fully clothed during dinner okay?"

"Okay Officer Yoo."

Among the police guards Officer Yoo was one of the nicer men. He always looked after us and genuinely cared for our health and well being. For example, during the days I didn't receive food (for standing in line twice to retrieve Du Ho's food), he would hand me small energy bars and did the same for other starving kids.

Wooyoung showed no expression towards Yeosang's frivolous deeds and continued making his snowman. As his hands warped around the figure, he was adding the cherry on top for the head. Eyebrows furrowed, eyes narrowed, Wooyoung focused on his winter sculpture. His hands brushed delicately to form the finest details. Looking at the whole picture, he was creating a snowdog instead of a snowman.

I couldn't hide my aw for his masterpiece.

After a few rapid blinks his focus snaps and looks at my face, "Wut?"

"It-it's so artistic. Intricately carved. You have golden hands Wooyoung!"

Looking down, he gave a half smile and his fingers moved down to the collar. With his fingernails he started carving out a name for the dog. It was cute of him to do so.
