The sun was high in the sky, and was beating down on Benny while he practiced. It was the middle of the day, and he was already tired, having been to his other classes in the morning.
He was required to make all his practices in order to be higher on the scouting lists. He was the second most wanted college player in America, but he planned on being the first.
It had been a long day, but he was happy to look over in the dugout and see everyone crowded in one area. They were all looking down and so he knew who had come to visit him.
He ran over into the area the were huddled into and stepped between them to see his little princess standing in the middle. She was wearing a tiny version of Benny's jersey, even though since she was so small, it was still big on her. Her curly hair was sticking out from under a blue and gold ball cap, the letter c on the front.
"Daddy!" Her little voice squealed, her little arms reaching up and making grabbing motions.
He swooped her up an kissed her cheek, making her giggle. All the other players were smiling wide. None of them had children so they loved it when you would bring Eva to practice and they could see her.
Benny searched around the group to try and find you, but he couldn't see you. He couldn't see Rogers either. Anthony Rogers had become Benny's best friend on the team. They had the most in common and almost got along like Benny and the sandlot boys did.
Benny's curiosity won him over, his voice breaking though the conversation to ask a question.
"Hey do you guys know where Mack is?" He looked at the group, furrowing his eyebrows together while Eva played with his hat.
"Well we believe she's about to show old Rogers there a lesson." They all pointed over to home plate, where an un-uniformed player was walking out.
Your cuffed jeans and P.F. flyers wet better than any uniform in your opinion. You slung on the batters helmet you carried it your hand, and raised the bat in your other one.
Rogers was gonna be the pitcher, and stood a little short of the mound. He backed up a little as you swung a few practice swings.
Benny put down Eva and stood up on the step to see you bat. He almost looked anxious and the other guys noticed.
"Don't worry, Benny, he'll take it easy on her." One of the others told him. "She'll be fine."
"It's not her I'm worried about. He doesn't know what he's in for." Benny smirked, and the guys seemed confused. Most of their girlfriends came around sometimes. They would aimlessly swing the bat around until they probably only got a ground ball. Not to mention Rogers only pitched like 40 to them.
They thought that you would be just the same. Boy were they wrong.
Benny smiled back at the sight in front of him. True, you had been to the batting cages, but you looked so happy just being on a real field again. Benny was happy to see you back in your element. The last field you ever played on was the sandlot, and you'd missed it so much.
Rogers wound up, but just barely. You smirked to yourself. This guy had no clue. When he threw the ball, you almost forgot how slow a ball could actually come at you. 'Piece of cake' you thought. Within a second, your bat - which was actually Benny's bat - made perfect contact with the slow ball. No rotation or anything. And you thought Denunez pitched easy.
Your bat went all the way around, sagging at your side as you watched the ball fly up and over into left field. Due to the slow pitch, the ball didn't go nearly as far as you could probably send it, but for your first try it was good enough.
Benny smiled, cheering you on a bit while the others stood in the back, slack jawed at what just happened. They were speechless. Of course they'd never seen a girl play like that, because you were the only girl around that could.
You took the helmet off and ran back to the dugout. Everyone except Benny had wide eyes and couldn't say anything. You came over to Benny and kissed his cheek before picking up Eva and outing her on your hip. You simply acted as though nothing had happened, but when you looked at the faces of Benny's team members, you couldn't help but laugh.
"What do I got helmet hair or something?" You joked, sitting down on the bench and putting Eva in your lap.
When they didn't respond again, then you really got weirded out. What was the deal?
"Seriously though, you guys are acting like I'm from Mars." You looked over at Benny and he chuckled.
"They didn't know you could rake it like that." He told you, coming over to sit next to you and take a drink from his water bottle.
"Really? Don't they know the story?" You asked Benny and he shook his head. You smiled and rolled your eyes. "Fine, I'll tell them. Benny used to think I was a boy because I played."
To this they all piped up from their shocked expressions and started to laugh a little.
"Well when you say it like that it sounds horrible." Benny replied. "You tried to make me think you were a boy so you could play with us."
"Okay yeah.... but I did a pretty good job to fool eight guys." You said, bouncing Eva on your knee.
Just then Rogers came strutting up to the dugout.
"Damn Benny boy, your girlfriend there is a real slugger." He pointed over at you before taking a seat across from you both.
"Well, sorry to correct you bud, but she ain't my girlfriend..." Benny looped his arm around your waist pulling you closer to him. "This here is my wife."
You gently smiled to yourself, turning your face into Benny's neck to hide your blush. You loved it when he called you that in front of people, but you'd always turn red when it happened.
"Ah yes, how could I forget. You only talk about her ninety nine percent of the time." Rogers joked, rolling his eyes and taking a drink of water.
"That ain't true.... I also talk about my princess." Benny replied, taking Eva from your lap and resting her against his chest, which was quite sweaty might I add.
"Whatever. Either way you guys are just too gosh darn cute... makes me wanna puke." Rogers said, his eyes rolling once again like before.
You both laughed before standing up. Benny handed you Eva and you took her gladly.
"Well, I'll see you later, but I gotta head out." You kissed Benny and turned to leave when one of the other guys got your attention.
"Where you off to so fast, I thought your classes were this morning?"
"Oh uh... I'm starting a new job today." You smiled. It's true. Your first real job.
Even though Benny was already raking in the big bucks, with all of his sponsors and merchandise, you wanted to get a job of your own. It wasn't much, but it was a step up from being a stay at home mom that did nothing while her child was in daycare. You loved being at home when Eva was there, but when you would take her to daycare, or to be watched by your mother, you didn't have much to do."You're gonna kill it. Bet, they already love you by the end of the day." Benny said before pecking your lips once more. You blushed and said goodbye to everyone, taking your leave from the dugout.
Benny sat back down and tested his head against the wall. Man he was so proud of you.
So I know the storyline is a bit slow right now, but it's gonna pick up I promise.... and y'all I swear even if no one reads it it would still write this because I just love them so much and want to keep they're story going
