Sitting in front of a mirror, watching as makeup artists applied different products to you face was definitely a first. You hadn't worn makeup since your wedding for starters, so the feeling of having all that stuff caked on your face, was very unpleasant.
Another factor was the coversaion of your manager and her boss in the background, having a chat that wasn't as discrete as they thought. You could hear them loud and clear, and knew they were talking about you.
The things they said hadn't exactly been kind so far, but now they were definitely getting meaner.
"The models we have look fine in front of the camera, but it seems with her, the camera adds thirty pounds instead of ten." The manager said, making you heave a sigh as the makeup artist started in on your hair.
It hurt to hear those things being said about you, but they were inevitably true. You'd not been able to lose as much baby weight since the last time you gave birth, and it wasn't helping your advertising career much. Although sometimes it could be hidden, it was harder to conceal whwn you were supposed to be wearing a skin tight dress.
You knew you had to lose some weight if you wanted to be able to keep this up. It wouldn't matter as much to you if it didn't have to do with the fact that this road lead to possibly being the first female Major League Baseball player. It had been your dream since you were five, but when you got older it faded away because you knew girls weren't supposed to play ball. Now it could finally be happening, but you have to go through all this pain and torture first.
You snapped your head around at the sound of footsteps coming towards you. You looked at the reflection in the mirror to see Adele, along with someone you hadn't seen in a while.
"Hey, Elzwe- I mean Mack." She started, remembering the name you prefered. "Someone's here to see you, she said you invited her to watch the shoot."
"I did!" You hopped up from your seat, running over to embrace your friend in a bone crushing hug.
"Careful, you're gonna squish me." Aally said, hugging you back and smiling.
She has just moved into town ealier in the week, and this was the first time you were able to see her in person.
"I'm just so glad you're here!" You told her, shaking her around excitedly in your embrace.
She laughed and pulled back from you, taking in everything set up in the room.
"So, modeling huh? I don't wanna sound mean, but you of all people I wouldn't ever have expected to do modeling." She admitted.
"Honestly I never thought I would. It's not really my thing, however it is going to hopefully lead onto being a baseball player." You told her, to which she gave a confused look.
"The heck? What does modeling have anything to do with being a baseball player?" She asked, crossing her arms and tilting her head as you were pulled back to the makeup chair.
"Sports advertising. It's the only reason I'm being trained as a model in the first place." You replied, winking at her in the mirror, making her roll her eyes playfully. Man you missed your conversations with her. She always made you laugh.
"So wait, I'm confused, you just invited me here to watch all this?" She asked bluntly. You didn't really care, you knew she wasn't being rude, it was simply just the way she talked.
"Actually...." you trailed off, waitinf for her to question you, though she didn't, and just strutted up behind you to loom you in the eye through the reflection. "I got you an interview. They said they needed a tall girl with long legs. I said I know someone."
