Chapter 10

*Six Months later*
*Set in season 6 right before the merger and Sarah is now six*
*meredith and derek did the post it already but I'll do an actual wedding instead of them going to a courthouse*

It's been around six months since Sarah became officially ours, we've enrolled her into school she is in first grade now "Sarah come on it's time for school" I shook her a little bit, "no mommy I wanna stay with you and daddy" she said trying to go back to sleep, "I don't think so Sarah, you got to learn so you can become a surgeon like me and daddy then you can come to work with us all the time" I said, she looked up at me with her messy hair then raised her hands so I can pick her up. Once she is dressed and ready we both head to the kitchen to see izzie preparing dinner "are you gonna quit being a surgeon and be our personal chef?" I laughed, "no but since I no longer live here I thought it'd be nice to have this as my going away gift to you" she told me putting a plate infront of Sarah and i

"Momma where is daddy" Sarah asked with her mouth full, "chew your food and daddy is at the hospital working on brains" I told her putting my dish away, now that izzie is gone and Alex moved back in I have to learn how to actually cook and not try to burn everything I cook

"okay little miss let's get you to school" I said and I got her backpack then headed out the door, after I dropped Sarah off at school I headed to the hospital once I showed up to the hospital I got an immediate page to the pit "okay what do we got" I asked the paramedic, "John doe gun shot to the shoulder, abdomen and leg" they said, "okay let's page ortho, and general" I said, "grey get him to trauma one and work on him" hunt said, I ran him in with Cristina and Bailey by my side "we got to get him to the OR now he isn't going to live much longer, yang stay in the pit Grey scrub in with me" bailey said, I went along with bailey to the OR we both scrubbed and went into the surgery "this is a lot of blood suction Grey" bailey said

"Dr. Grey you are wanted in the pit" a nurse said, "I'm kinda almost elbow deep in a patients abdomen have someone else do it" I said, "they said it's your daughter" the nurse then said, right then I freeze and look at bailey "go go I got it from here" bailey told me, I went and scrubbed out quickly walked to the pit. I saw derek outside the trauma room with teary eyes "what happened" I asked, "I don't know they won't let me in what happened this morning" he asked me, "well I woke her up like normal she wanted to come to work with me today like always and then izzie made us breakfast before she officially moved out then I dropped her off at school, was it something I did? I should've just let her come to work then maybe this wouldn't happen" I said tearing up, "hey hey stop it all you did was do the normal routine" derek kissed my head, Cristina came out "Cristina tell us something please" I begged her

"The paramedic said she passed out we are taking her to CT, I will update you every time I can go to the cafeteria and get something okay she will be fine I will make sure of it" Cristina told us, "thank you" derek told her, Cristina smiled and went off to CT "come on" derek said, "no let's go to CT I need to see her please derek" I begged him, "Mer, we can't we are her parents let's wait for the results" derek told me trying to calm me down, "but I really need to see her" I tried again, "Meredith, fine but if they kick us out no secret oncall room meetings for a week" he told me as I dragged him along, we got to the room "I told you to go to the cafeteria" Cristina said next to Dr.Nelson

"I needed to see her, is she conscious?" I asked, "unfortunately no, but you guys shouldn't be here. You guys are parents right now not surgeons" Dr.Nelson told us, "can I just look please" I begged, "scans are ready" the technician said, "damnit" Nelson said, "what do you mean 'damnit'" I asked, "she has a tumor right there" Nelson pointing to her frontal lobe, I started to cry as soon I as I heard tumor I felt Derek's arms around me "come on mer" he said taking me out into the hallway "it's okay it's okay she will be fine" he said rubbing my back, "we just got her derek and I don't want her taken away from us sudden" I said crying into his chest, "she won't i promise" he then said. "I just got fired because of the stupid merger now what am I going to do woah Meredith what happened" izzie said coming over, "Sarah has a tumor" derek said, "wait you got fired?" I asked her

"Yeah I mean after what happened with me and Alex then George's death I guess Webber saw that I wasn't a need anymore, I'm actually headed back to my moms now I guess I hope everything is okay with Sarah" izzie said then walking away, "wow I thought she'd stay for her, I guess she's a much different person now" I said wiping my tears. Cristina then came out of the CT room with Sarah I walked with her and derek on the other side getting in her room, "I need you guys to sign some papers" Nelson said, we nodded getting the papers to get signed "okay so what's going to happen is that I'm not gonna be in surgery but I will watch it, I'm a heart person not a brain person. You guys will be in the waiting room like normal parents, I will update you every second I can and Alex will be assisting Nelson" Cristina said, "when is her surgery?" Derek asked "in 4 hours" Cristina said then she spoke up again and said "I'm going to leave you three alone" she then left

I pat her head and brush her hair with my fingers looking at her with the tube in her throat, eyes closed tears flowing down my face, derek went to talk to Richard about something it's been about two hours since her scan and it still hasn't shocked me that there is something wrong with Sarah "hey I'm gonna prep her now" Alex said coming in, "please make sure she's okay please Alex" I said, "always mer I will I saw derek on my way here yelling at Webber so I think you might wanna go stop that" Alex told me, I gave a kiss on the head to Sarah and said goodbye to alex. You could actually hear the yelling down the hallway I turn into the room seeing the two going at it "hey. HEY" I yelled into the room, "do you see and hear how stupid you guys are this is a hospital not a damn bar. Derek our daughter is about to go into surgery and instead of being there for her you are yelling at Richard about the damn merger" I told them, "Meredith" derek said coming towards me "no don't I'm leaving, figure this out without yelling at each other" I told them heading out the door. I walked into the residences lounge to see Lexie sitting drink a coffee "hey mer I heard about Sarah is everything okay?" Lexie asked me, "no nothing is okay, derek is yelling at webber, my daughter who I just got back is in surgery getting a tumor removed from her brain I don't know" I said sitting down, "do you want me to go check?" Lexie asks, "would you? I'm afraid if I go in I'll cry myself into a coma" I told her, when she left I saw I had two texts one from derek and one from Cristina

Derek: mer I'm sorry where are you I love you

Me: please leave me alone until I hear Sarah is okay

Cristina: I have a Sarah update where are you?

Me: I'm in the lounge hiding from derek

A few moments later I saw derek and Cristina walk through the door into the residence lounge "how did you know I was here" I asked derek, "um Cristina told me, why are you hiding from me? Meredith I'm sorry for how I acted with Richard, I'm here now please let me be with you" derek begged me, "fine but don't do it again, if something happens in the merger then you can yell at Richard" I told him, "okay Nelson resected the whole tumor she started to tank but he got her back and is now closing her up" Cristina said, "oh my god, so she's okay?" I asked, "yes she should be back in her room in 20 minutes" Cristina said with an actual smile on her face.

She's okay my baby is okay "thank god" I said getting up going towards derek putting my arms around his neck and kissing him "well I'm going to leave before that escalates" Cristina said then leaving the room, I laugh while leaning my head on his chest "let's go see our baby girl" we both walked out hand and hand towards her room "hey she doesn't have a vent lungs are good" derek said walking over to her kissing her head, "she did amazing, you should be proud of her mer" Alex said checking her charts "I am" I kissed her forehead

A few hours later "mommy" I heard Sarah say, "baby girl, how are you?" I asked, "I'm okay where daddy? Where am I?" She asked, "you are in the hospital you had a little fall at school and daddy is in surgery I'm going to page him to let him know your okay" I said then kissed her head "tell daddy I love him" she said, I smiled at her "I will"
