She entered the room with dread

She entered the room with dread.

In the end, she stood there helplessly as Alex used her to trap Jin into lunch.

Lyra left the room feeling stupid and used, embarrassment staining her face.  She hated this, hated being used to get Alex her way.  Truth be told, she hated Alex.

She was still struggling to calm herself when she heard SeokJin shouting at Alex to leave.

She tried to get into the small room off her office before Alex appeared in the waiting area.  She did not have enough time to disappear before as Alex stormed out of Jin's office.

She came at Lyra immediately, malice clear on her face.

“Were you listening to our conversation?” she asked.

Lyra simply shook her head no.

Alex looked at her trying to decide if she was being truthful, then she was distracted by another thought.

“Min Lyra…. How are you fitting in here?” she asked.

Lyra mumbled some incoherent answer and busied herself at her desk.

Crimson nails trailed over the files on her desk, causing Lyra's anxiety to spike.

“Are you dating anyone?” she continued.

Again, Lyra shook her head.

“I am sure you heard that SoekJin is taking me as his date to the Design Gala” she said, preening in the mirror in the waiting room. “We will be the most beautiful couple there.”

She turned to Lyra with narrowed eyes.

“You had better get the best date for this Gala.  Someone in upper management, someone on Jin's own team,” she mused out loud.

She caught the panic on Lyra's face and laughed at her.

“You pitiful little mouse. You had better get to work. A lot rides on the Gala and you don’t even have a date.” Her smile was not kind.

She leaned in close to Lyra, all pretense gone, replaced by cold arrogance, demanding obedience.

“Get. To. Work!” she hissed.

Then she turned and stalked out, leaving Lyra shaken.

She stumbled into Mr. Kim's office, trusting in his kindness.  He would be honest.  Surely she was not “required” to go to this function, or to have a date if she was.

She stopped short, mortified that she was interrupting an intimate moment between SeokJin and SongDae.

She asked for details about the Gala and Jin called on the last of his patience to answer.

He could tell that the young woman in front of him was struggling, but he had things to deal with that were much more important to him right now.

He went to his desk and pulled out a folder and scrawled a note on the inside.  He handed the folder to Lyra and instructed her to take it to Jeon JungKook.

“Don’t come back until he has asked you to the Gala,” he instructed.

Lyra took the folder from him, fighting panic.

How was she supposed to get him to ask? She really liked him. What if he hated her? Then remembering the moments she spent with him, she had to sit a minute.

What if he liked her?  What if he actually asked her out?

She glanced at the closed door of her boss’s office, stood and squared her shoulders.  Guess there was only one way to get those questions answered.

Jungkook had spent the morning monitoring security footage.

He was intrigued as he saw the video from the corridor on the executive floor.  He watched Jin and Lyra hurry out and followed them through the series of security points.  What in the hell were they doing?

He was engrossed in his work, but he did hear the soft steps approaching his work station.

He closed his screens and looked up to greet the visitor.  His heart jolted when he saw Lyra standing in his door.

His thoughts went immediately to all his daydreams about the Gala.  Here was his chance.

He smiled and came to the door to greet her.  She looked beautiful today.  Her hair was down and she had the most delicate blush to her skin.

Before he could speak, she shoved the folder at him and said “Mr. Kim sent me with this.”

JK frowned as he took it.  He would have a talk with Jin.  The girl looked terrified.

He was curious as to why Jin had sent a file to him until he opened the folder.

His skin paled as he read the words scrawled in Jin's messy writing.

“ASK HER! NOW!!!!” He had written, then underlined for emphasis.

He was trying to gather the courage when he saw a group of women gathering outside his office.  They meant no good.  He immediately knew they would try to intimidate Lyra into leaving.

He suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her to the door.

“Let’s go,” he whispered.

“But….but the file…..” she worried as they moved past his coworkers, down the long hall.

“I read it.  It's fine,” he told her.

Damn it! He should have planned this out better.  He just needed a minute of privacy to ask her out.  He laughed at himself for being so nervous.

Finally, he passed an empty office and he pulled her in behind him, protesting all the way.

Her words died in her throat as he came to an abrupt stop and she tumbled into his chest.  She sighed as his arms came out to steady her.

He seemed to always catch her when she started to fall.  What a wistful thought that was.  If only it could be true.

JK took a deep breath in reaction to her soft body in his arms.

She fit him naturally, all her soft places molding to him. He caught the sigh that slipped from her and his mind blanked.

When she looked up at him, he was lost.

He saw such trust in that glance, faith in him.

Those were emotions women never gave to him.  If he had seen desire, or even raw lust he would have reacted automatically.

This tenderness and vulnerability had him totally off guard.
