Soon they were in the lobby and out the front doors. The day was brilliant, the sun bright and the clouds floated by like cotton candy. Even with that he could still see Lyra was troubled.

He pulled her to a secluded bench and sat with his arm wrapped around her. She sighed and dropped her head on his shoulder letting him hold and soothe her.

Finally, he quietly asked, “what’s going on in that head of yours?”

She sighed again and lifted her eyes to him.

“I’m kinda lost now. I thought it would be such a relief, having it over and done. But now, I don’t know what to do or where to start,” she confided.

His nod encouraged her to continue.

“I have to make sure my family is ok. Where will I live now? I have to make a decision about a job….” She trailed off, too overwhelmed to continue.

He gave her a soft kiss and took her hands, his smile made her heart flip.

“You happen to have two very good investigators and their teams at your disposal and we have already begun the search for your grandmother. As soon as things are confirmed we will go there immediately,” he told her.

He could see her mood lift with this information.

“And let's talk about the apartment in a few weeks. Jin will allow us to stay as long as we want. Let’s not make too many big decisions at once. We are in no rush now, no pressure, right? ,” he reasoned.

” Also, Jin and Dae both have several apartment complexes. It won’t be a problem finding a nice place. Maybe we can convince your grandmother to move closer.”

The breath was almost knocked out of him as she flung her arms around his neck and kissed him. He smiled at the tears, happy ones this time, clinging to her eyelashes.

“Here,” he said, hugging her tightly to him, moving her into his lap “I would have said that ages ago if I had known I would get that reaction.”

They both laughed and relaxed.

“Jin and Dae will be competitive about the job. They will make the decision difficult, but both will fully support your decision,” he assured her, easing her tension down another notch.

He smiled and gently stood her from his lap.

“Let’s go to the place around the corner and get something to eat,” he suggested and she followed her hand firmly tucked in his.

They were there and seated in the back in just a few minutes. Jungkook ordered large meals and drinks, telling the waiter it was a celebration.

They relaxed and talked as the light faded. Lyra noticed that Jungkook had not finished his meal but he brushed off her concern.

After dessert, which he left untouched, Lyra excused herself for the ladies’ room. She waited in the long line, thinking how the day had gone.

Jungkook drained the last of his wine and thought of how the day had gone. He realized this was the first time he had been alone with his thoughts and he felt himself struggling.

He could not forget what Alex had said to him or the way she treated him. He could still feel her hands brushing against him and hear her predatory taunts.

He tried to sort out the mix of emotions but just felt noise reverbing in his head.

He was concentrating so hard he did not notice Lyra's return to the table. She called him once and got no response.

She looked at him and could tell he was miles away. He had not yet had a chance to process today.

She called his name again and his dark head turned to her. It took several seconds for him to really focus on her. She could see the turmoil in his eyes.

She hurt for him, but she knew from experience that he would have to come to terms himself before he could share things with her.

Lyra's face slowly came into focus. He could see both concern and understanding there. She knew he was struggling to put things together.

She nodded at him and smiled.

“You ok?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” he answered honestly.

She took his hand and held it tight. She simply sat and let him think.

He held on to her like a lifeline and stared out the windows in the front of the café.

As lights began to twinkle in the darkening sky, he looked at her. He caught her yawning behind her hand. She looked so weary now. Today had been emotionally draining for both of them.

“Lyra,” he spoke, shaking her from her own thoughts, “I think I need a little time alone to sort through some things. Do you mind if Roi takes you home now?”

She was worried and her instinct was to try to “fix" everything, but she knew he needed time.

She nodded at him and rose to meet the driver at the back entrance.

She stood looking down at him and tucked a lock of unruly hair behind his ear. He covered her hand with his, holding her hand in his hair. She smiled.

She moved to leave and he pulled her back, both hands holding and squeezing hers.

“Kiss me?” he asked, looking for all the world like a little boy afraid to be left alone.

She cupped his face and bent close and kissed him gently, trying to soothe his spirit.

“I will kiss you anytime, every time,” she vowed before stepping away.

He watched her to the door and waved when she turned around one last time.
