As Lyra drifted off, she was filled with complex emotions.

She was determined to do things on her own terms.  She would hold herself apart.  She truly did feel dirty.  It was not just the lack of a shower.  She felt used.  Even worse was that she did not know who, or how.  She knew it was not over.

As these thoughts hammered at her she felt him beside her.  He changed gears and laid his arm on the console.  The back of his hand accidentally brushed hers and she allowed herself the touch for the briefest moment. She was not brave enough to refuse it.

“Lyra,” he softly called as he pulled into the parking garage.

He did not want to touch her and startle her, so he had to call her several more times before she stirred.

He watched as she struggled to open her eyes.  She could not place where she was and he could tell it frightened her.

“Shhh…follow me, let’s get out of the garage,” he coaxed her.

He wanted to get her safely in the apartment and out of the open.

Still in a daze, she followed him into the elevator.  She shrunk back into the corner as other people entered, trying to hide behind him.  He moved to shield her from the prying eyes.  Did every apartment have nosey neighbors?

As they reached the higher and more secure floors they were alone.

He stepped out and opened the door to the apartment for her, allowing her to enter first.

She stood staring, unsure of why she where she was or why.

“Is this your apartment?” she asked.

He shook his head as he came in behind her, moving things around and hoping she liked the place.

“This is our apartment,” he said, knowing immediately his phrasing had been a mistake. Before she could say anything, he gently guided her to the couch.

“Let me explain.  This is where we will stay until things are sorted out.  Jin arranged for us to have a place in a safe area with extra security measures.  Also, a place no one knows about.” He explained.

She still looked angry and confused.

“My apartment is too small and the address too easily uncovered for someone really looking.  When word gets out that you have been questioned, whoever is behind this will move to ensure you take the fall for it,” he paused for a minute to gather his thoughts.

“That is why I convinced the police to release you to me.  I do not think your place is safe right now.  Plus, this will give us an opportunity to learn more about why this is happening.” He continued.

This time her storm of emotions was complicated, but there was no doubt anger was strong in the mix.

“So, you intend to use me as bait,” she said accusingly.
