He gathered their things and called for the car.  They walked out to the hall, joining several other people as they waited.

As their bodies cooled, Lyra felt a chill settle over her.  She had forgotten to get any type of wrap for the evening.  It really did not matter, nothing she owned would have been appropriate.

She looked around her at the silk and satin and fur wraps the ladies around her now were pulling tightly around themselves.

Right.  She needed this reminder that she did not truly belong here.  Like Cinderella, she was on borrowed time.

She shivered again, suddenly feeling quite shabby.

Before that thought settled into her bones, she felt warmth gently embrace her and she closed her eyes in welcome, not only for the physical warmth, but also the way the chill in her heart had been chased away.

Jungkook stood behind Lyra waiting for the car.  He was lost in thought, everything and nothing on his mind.

He noted the other couples around him, saw them on their phones ignoring each other or watched as lust simmered between them.  He could always get caught up in the way people responded to each other.

One older gentleman in particular caught his eye.

He was distinguished with grey at his temples, still tall and straight.  He held a luxurious fur stole in his hands and JK watched as he gently wrapped it around the shoulders of the beautiful woman in front of him, her hair threaded with silver, traces of tiny laugh lines around her eyes and mouth.

He watched as the man's hands lingered on her shoulders, how his mouth brushed her ear as he whispered to her.

He saw her hands come up to rest on his and watched her turn her face to his, like a sunflower seeking the sun.  He placed a tender kiss on her temple before gently leading her to the car.

Jungkook felt he had witnessed a sacred moment between the two.

Dozens of questions bounced around in his head about them.  He wondered what it had been like for that man the first time he had kissed her.

Those thoughts had him looking down at Lyra in front of him, imagining where he would be in forty years.

He felt an unusual gravity when he thought of the future, pondering the weight of responsibility as a man, a lover, a husband and a father. For the first time he considered what that would mean.

As he looked at down at Lyra, he saw the goosebumps puckering her skin.  Then he saw her shiver.

He looked at her beautiful, bare arms and realized how cold she must be.  He immediately shrugged out of his jacket and carefully draped it across her shoulders, an echo of the gesture he had seen from the gentleman earlier.

He watched as she pulled his jacket more tightly around her, burrowing into the warmth.  He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close, her head neatly tucking under his chin.

This….he could grow used to this.

Lyra welcomed the warmth settling over her, then she felt his hands on her shoulders and smelled his clean scent settle over her.

His jacket, then his arms, wrapped around her to chase the chill away.  She felt so safe in his arms, she wished she could just stay here cocooned this way.

JK's phone broke into their thoughts as the driver buzzed to let them know the car was there.  He tucked her in the car quickly, it's warm and plush seats seemed like heaven.
