I go to the Siren meeting hall that is also a bar and grill, 'The Firehouse', on a regular, scheduled basis: My job as Liaison. We talk about random things, but the point is never to come to any conclusions. It is to make sure our two species never come to blows because conflict would likely mean the end of both Vampires and Sirens. A wary sort of open communications dialog.
I learned that it does not have to be this way after I was captured by a wing of the Human Purity Alliance in Eastern Europe. There I met Kuzman, head of a Siren hall in Bulgaria. Kuzman is someone I could establish a dialog with that was useful. Here, in the States, that is not the goal. One reason I stay in touch with Kuzman and visit him every time I am in Europe. I have to go there all the time to be Adrian Claremont and pretend to run the winery Helen gave me (Fiona really does), so I take a side trip to Bulgaria all the time.
I like those Siren meetings much better than these, other than the fact that the ones here have Vera, Leslie, Kitty, and the others that tease the crap out of Larry, which I utterly approve off.
I pay close attention to the goings-on around 'The Firehouse'. In a power play, the Sirens insist we have these meetings on their turf. Perhaps not as clever as it could be, because that means I see them in their natural habitat. I learn things that have turned out to be very useful.
I discovered here that female Sirens are a thing when Vampires thought Sirens are only Male and reproduced only by having sex with humans. In retrospect, that seems like a less than clever assumption, but it fits in with the general attitude Vampires have about Males, and about Sirens. It fit their pre-conceived notions.
That particular discovery had been key in stopping Siren plans to erase Vampires because now we knew Sirens reproduced in a whole other way. That led me to the second realization that Siren women kept the lid on things while the men went around seducing humans as often as they could and not realizing their world would collapse without their codependent Siren women.
I say codependent because I cannot really deeply emotionally connect to why Siren women even bother with their men. This is MY pre-conceived notions at work.
Larry-the-tortured is an older Siren who owns the bar and grill. He is my contact point to the secret group of people that are the Siren high command. I have about decided from various clues that they are probably older Sirens and maybe women, who are the ones Siren's insert into human society and guide it for their needs. Since Vampires have people in those same roles, we know where a lot of them are, and by all reports, they act much more responsibly than the ones at the bar.
Larry and I talked. Bullshit was exchanged. We achieved nothing as expected. Leslie and Vera served beers as we flapped our lips. The two Siren women played their favorite game. This involves finding ways to open their sole upper body garment, leather vests with no undergarments, to flash me but not Larry.
It drives Larry nuts. As I do not like Larry all that much, I approve highly of this activity.
Morgan and Angel are with me on this trip, however, they are over on the restaurant side, having a hamburger and a salad. Angel stays slim by eating like a bird most of the time. She does not have Vampire metabolism to help with that.
When they were done eating, Angel and Morgan came into the bar and got a beer and some wine, and chatted with Vera while Larry and I finished up our usual round of mutual snow jobs.
Larry knows Morgan, but I guess either he never met Angel or at the least did not remember her. I know she has been here. Angel always gets male Siren attention when she is here. It is weird. Larry openly stared at Angel. "Who the hell is that?" he asked me.
"Angel?" I called. She looked over, and I waved her over. When she was standing next to me, I said "Angel, This is Larry. He is the owner of this fine bar and grill and my host. My main point of contact into the Siren community. Larry, this is Angel. She is a PI in our firm, the mother of my oldest daughter, and my lover. I have claimed her. She is a human, and she and Vera are friends as well, as you can see."
