That Was You?

Jessica is seated outside by herself, and we waved at her as we walked by the porch and in the front door. She managed to keep the unexpected additions to our party off her face.

Morgan and I ordered beer. I went with a wet hop from California, and Morgan tried a new Imperial IPA from a local micro. Our new Siren acquaintances went with decaf coffee (Wyatt) and a decaf latte (Ginger). We went out to the porch and Jessica, who had a hazy beer that my nose told me is the same as mine. That is no surprise, as the only reason Morgan went with a different one is so we could support local, and also try unfamiliar things. She would have chosen mine had I not gotten there first.

I will steal some of hers, and she will steal some of mine anyway. For the three of us, we could get one big loving cup and just pass it around. Helen would sip her Claremont and probably mention how uncultured we are. So uncultured she married the three of us.

Jessica kissed us both hello, and I introduced her. "Jessica, this is Wyatt and Ginger. Morgan and I met them on the street south of here a little. Seems they live right next to one of our favorite watering holes. Wyatt and Ginger, this is our wife, Jessica."

If Jessica is in any way surprised we introduced her in such a plural way, it did not show. It is not our normal introduction. She stood and shook hands, and by now she had to have scented they are Sirens. She is not a Hypersensitive, but she IS a Vampire and they sat an arm's length away.

"Hello, Wyatt and Ginger. Very nice to meet you. Please. Have a seat."

Ginger apologized in advance. "I am sorry if we are intruding on a family event here. We wanted to meet all of you. The 'First Family' of the Vampire world. We talk about you a great deal."

"No problem. Morgan and Adrian have been out of town for three days working on a case, only sleeping at home, and we were just going to have a beer or three. Our parents are taking care of our children, so we have all the time in the world." Jessica told her.

Jessica is intrigued by the two people before her. I can tell.

"I have to say that this meeting is long delayed, and for that, I also apologize, but understand the reluctance of our kind to reveal too much to your kind, given our history." Ginger told Jessica over the rim of her coffee before she took a delicate sip.

"I for one am happy that we have been able to reach this place at all." Jessica agreed. "I am young, for my kind, but I know what the oral legends say happened, and I can't agree with or condone it. I did not do it but my kind did, and you have every reason in the world not to trust us." Jessica said.

As Jessica talked, I offered my beer to Morgan, and she gave me hers. We took thoughtful sips, then she took a larger drink of mine. "I'm keeping this one". She informed me.

Jessica silently offered me some of hers. The Imperial that Morgan ordered is good, but it is not the wet hop.

"Except that your husband has given us some reason, don't you think, Jessica?" Ginger asked.

"My husband in the most unique male of our species. He is special, and he is dragging the North American Vampire community kicking and screaming into modern times. I am proud to be his wife, as is Morgan."

"Absolutely." Morgan agreed. "Though I should note that as proud as I am of him, I am still keeping his beer."

"Vampire marriage styles are unique." Wyatt commented.

Morgan took a drink of formerly-my beer. "It makes sense, Wyatt. I would suppose any species as long-lived as we would adopt a Polyamorous approach to love relationships. Marriage is more unique. You might argue that it is superfluous to beings such as ourselves, and most Vampires would agree. At the heart of the reason that we do it is that Adrian wanted to commit at that level, and we, his spouses, want that too. To him and to each other."
