Helen and Rachel went to New York. In theory, there is a North American Vampire Council meeting up there they are attending, and their presence is more mandatory than most, since they are not only Council members, but live with me.

It is not that I am a pain in the ass to live with (I am) but that I have caused, directly or indirectly, more uproar in the Vampire community since I turned than pretty much any other Vampire. Some of that is good in my opinion since I think the Vampire world needs to question a few of its long-standing assumptions.

Helen and Rachel need to be there to report in the Siren goings-on from their point of view. I report directly to the head of the Council, Victoria, but as a male, I am not invited to this shindig.

I am fine with that. Politics is not my bag.

The big point of discussion is more than likely the fact that we recently learned that all the Male Vampires that have been being assassinated down the years was a lot of unnecessary death. That males need a variable amount of time to adapt to the Vampiric change. To re-grow up, if you will. We have proof positive of this now, and that caused people on the Crew like Denise, Carol, and Anne to refuse to kill any more. Denise told Victoria to her face she would refuse that order. She would leave the Crew first.

I have mixed feelings about Denise leaving the Crew. On the one side there is that you can be on the Crew too long. It can warp your sensibilities. It warped Cert to the point where she tried to kill me and is on Parole. On the other hand, she won't kill any more so the primary thing that is causing issues for long-term residency on the Crew will no longer happen. Yet one more thing is that Denise plans on having a child or three as soon as she is off Crew.

And that's good. No one deserves a child or children more than Denise. But I am not ready for that yet. It is not that I do not want her in my life. I do. It is that I have a lot going on already right now, and having yet another lover would be bad. The male / female, gender / interest balance in my marriage already teeters on the ragged edge of too few heterosexual males. We talk about that ALL the time. I am about ready to propose to DeWayne myself, just to get him on. Not that Carol would like that. Or he would go for it. None of the above.

Victoria is on board with the moratorium. Once she heard the evidence we collected, she issued an executive order disallowing the practice of offing boy Vampires in NorthAm. That directive is only good in NorthAm, but it has spread to other Geos. The Euro Council adopted it immediately. Of course, they know me pretty well these days. I have fought with them, and they come to my 'Castle' every time I am in France to swim, ride horses, and drink wine.

Apparently the AsiaPac geo has not agreed to the stricture. Helen told me they are suspicious of the source, I.E. Me. As I have never met anyone from that Geo that I know of, I am not sure why they do not trust me. I think that it is more likely that they have trouble being told what to do by another Geo.

I kind of get that. At the same time I think there will be a future problem: If the other Geos start having living male Vampires going forward, and they have few or none, will there be conflict? In the past, in human history, cultures that killed off their female children went to war with cultures that didn't, to get access to THEIR women. Will the same thing happen here? On the other hand, rescuing a bunch of male Vampires still leaves us in a many thousands-to-one ratio. That is how nature works for Vampires.

It is not common knowledge that we can probably change that now too.

Rachel's job at the Times means she needs to be up there in New York longer, and Helen is going to stay with her. They will be gone for a while. I am not quite sure why Rachel does not just admit that she and Helen should be together and marry at least her. But that is me. One excellent thing about a large Poly Vampire family is that when a set of parents is off doing things, there are plenty of parents left for the kids. Not to mention grandparents! We are unusual in that we have two entire sets of living grandparents. Most vampires are far too old for that.
