Amelia's POV- September 2019

I jumped at the sudden loud noise that came as a result of the front door swinging open. Unfortunately, I was about to take a sip of my coffee, so I ended up spilling some on myself.

"He's asleep," I told Jon making him freeze on his spot as he looked up at the staircase.

I gestured at the seat across from me.

"When he wakes up, he'll ring the bell and you can go up then. For now, just let him rest" I said.

"You're up early"

I watched as he put his duffle bag into the closet in the hallway.

"I didn't input grades last night" I stated as I grabbed a napkin to dab my chest clean from coffee.

He glanced at the stack of paperwork.

"You know, you can do that during the weekend"

Bigmouth did not know about Val's surprise dinner on Saturday.

"I'd rather not be miserable during the weekend" I noted.

He smiled and took a rather large gulp of my coffee.

"You know, Alex talks a lot in his sleep" I mentioned.

"Yeah, I just tune him out"

"With your snores?" I guessed.

Instead of rolling his eyes, he just stared at me.

"Hey, Lia"

"Yeah?" I asked.

His bottom lip wobbled and I did my best to wrap my arms around him.

"He's okay" I assured him.

He sniffled and hugged my waist as he tucked his head into my neck.

"He's okay, worst things have happened to him," I said.

That earned a small sobbed chuckle from him.

"Just like worst things have happened to you" I reminded him.

I gave him a squeeze before pulling away a bit to see his face.

"You two chose this life when you decided to be first responders" I stated lightly tapping his nose.

He scrunched up his nose as I reached over for a napkin.

"Deep breath" I instructed before wiping his face clean for him.

He did as told and after a couple of minutes, I gave him a gentle squeeze and let go of him.

"Stay put while I make breakfast," I told him.

He nodded his head as I kissed his cheek.

"What are you making?"

"Breakfast" I answered.

He smiled and tucked a hand under his chin as he looked at the three bowls, and waffle maker on the counter.

"Waffles"

I nodded as I placed the dry ingredients into a large bowl, and then whisked them together.

"What are you overthinking about?"

You see, waffles were my comfort/I'm overthinking about something food.

"Gavin reached out" I disclosed as I added milk, egg yolks, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract in another bowl.

He raised an eyebrow and hummed.

"I was going to ask how he got your full name but then I remembered it was projected to everyone at the game"
