I hadn't been able to fall asleep yet but when I heard running in the dormitory hallway, I shot up, wide away. I put on some shoes and peeked out into the hall. I didn't see anyone but I walked out anyway, into the common room. I heard whispering but still I didn't see anyone. "Who's there?" I asked quietly. No one answered for a second. I looked around and suddenly, Harry and Ron were standing right in front of me. "Bloody hell. Where did you two come from?" Harry and Ron smiled at me. Harry pulled a cloak over their heads, suddenly both of them disappeared. I ran a hand through my hair as they took the cloak off.

"Harry got an invisibility cloak for Christmas." I smiled at the boys, amazed.

"Who..." Ron shook his head.

"We don't know." I looked around and my eyebrows furrowed.

"Where exactly are you going?" I asked the two of them, crossing my arms over my chest. Harry and Ron looked at each other before looking back at me.

"Come with us." Harry said, opening the cloak more. I smiled and got into the cloak.

The three of us stood in front of a mirror. It was large, but still only took up a small portion of the room. Along the rim of the mirror, there was a phrase in Latin. Or at least it looked Latin. 'erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi'. I didn't know what it said. But when I stepped in front of the mirror, I saw my dad and my mum, just as I had remembered them. I saw them both standing right behind me, my dad with one arm wrapped around mum and one hand on my shoulder. Mum had both her arms wrapped around me, large smiles on both of their faces. They looked happy, really happy. "Come on. Come. Come look, it's my parents!" I turned back to Harry, confused.

"I only see me." Ron said, shaking his head. Harry moves over and points to a spot.

"Look in properly. Go on. Stand there. There. You see them, don't you? That's my dad -" Ron shakes his head.

"That's me! Only, I'm head boy... and I'm holding the Quidditch cup! And bloody hell, I'm Quidditch Captain too! I look good. Harry, do you think this mirror shows the future?" Harry looks back at me and sighs.

"How can it? Both my parents are dead." Harry smiles sadly and looks back at me. "What do you see?" I stare back at the mirror, seeing my dad smiling down at me and my mom kissing my cheek.

"I see my parents too..." I can hear Harry's sigh as I stare back at the mirror.

By now Harry and Ron were long gone. I sat at the edge of the mirror, staring up at the idea of perfection that I had built up in my mind for so many years. "Still here, Mirabella?" I hear the voice call out. I stood up quickly, sighing when I saw that it was Dumbledore. I smiled at him. "I see that you, like so many before you, have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised. I trust by now you realize what it does. Let me give you a clue. The happiest man on earth would look into the mirror and see only himself, exactly as he is." I turn back to the mirror and sigh.

"It shows our deepest desires, right sir?" I ask Dumbledore, turning back to him.

"That is correct. It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts. Now you, who hasn't seen your family in a long time, you see them standing beside you. But remember this, Mirabella. This mirror gives us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away in front of it, even gone mad. That is why tomorrow it will be moved to a new home, and I must ask you not to go looking for it again. It does not do to dwell on dreams, Mirabella, and forget to live." I looked back at the mirror and sighed.

"I miss you." I whispered to the image of my parents before turning back to Dumbledore, as he led me out of the room.
