I sat in the hospital wing, my leg bouncing as I watched over Harry and Ron. Madame Pomfrey said they were both going to be fine. They just needed rest. But that didn't stop my nerves and my leg from bouncing up and down. It wasn't just Harry and Ron that I was worried about. My dad had been arrested. And we hadn't been able to prove him innocent. So he was going to get the dementor's kiss. And I would officially be an orphan. Hermione stopped pacing, looking at Harry. I turned around, seeing Harry moving, as he sat up. He was finally awake. "I saw my dad." That was the first thing he said. Both Hermione and I looked at Harry, confused. His dad was dead. "He sent the dementors away. I saw him across the lake.
"Harry, they captured my dad." Harry's face fell as he stared back at me. "Any minute the dementors are gonna perform the kiss."
"They're gonna kill him?" Harry asked, sitting up quickly.
"No, it's worse. Much worse. They're going to suck out his soul." Hermione tells Harry. I feel my stomach drop and I feel nauseous. Just then the doors burst open, and Dumbledore walked through, walking over to us. "Headmaster. You've got to stop them." Hermione said as we all rushed towards him. I had tears threatening to fall. "They've got the wrong man." Hermione explains, as she slips her hand into mine. She was always perceptive. She gave it a small squeeze as I looked up at Dumbledore.
"He's innocent Dumbledore." I plead with him, but he just shakes his head.
"It was Scabbers who did it." Ron pitches in from his bed. We all turn to see him finally awake.
"Scabbers?" We all look at Dumbledore. Ron tries to explain but his words are a mess.
"He was an animagus. Peter Pettigrew." I told Dumbledore. "But the point is, we know the truth." I tell Dumbledore, shaking my head. "Please believe us. You have to." I tell him, my eyes pleading with him. He put a hand on my shoulder.
"I do believe you." He sighs, shaking his head again. "But the word of three 13 year old wizards and a 15 year old wizard will convince very few others, especially when one of them is you." Dumbledore tells me and I sigh, knowing he is right. He is always right. He walks over to Ron, patting his leg. I laugh quietly as Ron gasps in pain. "A child's voice, however honest and true, is meaningless to those who have forgotten how to listen." Dumbledore looks up at the clock as it dings and walks towards Hermione, like an idea came to mind. "Mysterious thing, time. Powerful... and when meddled with, dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the Dark Tower. You know the laws Ms Granger. You must not be seen. And you would do well, I feel, to return before the last chime." My eyebrows furrowed as I looked back at Hermione, totally confused. "If not, the consequences are too ghastly to discuss." Harry looks just as confused as I do. "If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life may be spared." Dumbledore turns to go but looks back at Hermione. "Three turns should do it, I think." He starts to close the door but then stops himself. "Oh and by the way. When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin. Good luck." He closes the door behind him and I stare at Hermione.
"What in bloody hell was all that about?" Ron asked and I nodded. But Hermione didn't answer as she took a pendant from around her neck and placed it around me and Harry.
"Sorry, Ron. But seeing as you can't walk..." Ron and Harry exchange a curious glance before Hermione starts to turn the pendant. Harry goes to touch it but Hermione hits his hand away. I laugh. When I look up, it's light outside.
"What the hell?" I said as she took the pendant off us, looking around the empty hospital wing. I had heard of these things before. Time Turners, I think.
"What just happened? Where's Ron?" Hermione ignores the question, eyeing the clock on the wall.
"7:30. Where were we at 7:30?" Hermione asks us. I shrug, scratching my head.
