We were floating for a few seconds before we were dropped merely millimeters from the ground. The room was black. I stood up from the ground, dusting myself off. For now, it looked like we were in the clear. No signs of any death eaters. "Department of Mysteries. They got that bit right, didn't they?" Ron spoke up. I cracked a smile. I had no idea where we were. Harry seemed enchanted by the one object in the room: a stone arch. It looked like there was a thin veil blowing in the breeze, covering the arch as Harry moved closer to it. He still carried the prophecy in his hand.
"The voices. Can you tell what they're saying?" Harry asked us. I heard them whispering but I couldn't make it out. Luna seemed to hear them too.
"There aren't any voices, Harry." Hermione said. She looked over at me for support but I scrunch my eyebrows. "Let's get out of here."
"I hear them, too." Luna speaks up. I look over at her and nod.
"As do I."
"Harry, it's just an empty archway." Hermione said as we all looked at the archway. It didn't matter if Hermione was right or not, we had to get out of here. "Please, Harry." Hermione begged. I heard a noise, drawing my attention away from the archway.
"Get behind me." I shouted, standing next to Harry. They all filed behind us, wands out and ready. The black clouds flew around the room, fighting with us. When I could finally see again, Bellatrix had her wand pointed at my neck, her cackling laugh echoing in my ear. She had a wicked grip on my arm, one that I wanted to break free from to get to Harry. He was the only one who was not being held. Lucius was waiting for him. I could hear Hermione's whimpers as the death eater grabbed her hair, holding it tightly as she writhed, trying to break free. Lucius chuckled.
"Did you actually believe... or were you truly naive enough to think... that children stood a chance against us?" Lucius moved closer to Harry and I wanted to help him. "I'll make this simple for you, Potter. Give me the prophecy now... or watch your friends die." Harry looked around at all of us, his eyes staying on mine. I shook my head.
"Don't give it to him, Harry." Neville finally shouted out. Harry reached his arm out slowly, ready to hand over the prophecy. I shook my head. Don't do it. But he handed it over. Suddenly there was a bright light that dimmed Lucius' cause for celebration, my dad making him turn to look at him.
"Get away from my godson." He socked him across the face and members of the Order apparated out of nowhere, taking down the death eaters that held us. The prophecy shattered on the ground. Bellatrix screamed as Uncle Remus shot a spell at her, making me hug him tight. Before Remus had a chance to tell me to get out of here, I ran towards my dad. He gripped my waist tightly as if he was scared to let me go. "Now, listen to me. Take the others and get out of here." We looked at him wildly.
"We're not leaving without you." I told him. The ache in my stomach was back. Something was wrong.
"You've done beautifully. Now, let me take it from here." Dad tried to sway us.
"Black!" Lucius spat and both dad and I whirled as the blond man pulled out his wand. And with two more death eaters at his side, Lucius advanced, the three of us fighting in perfect sync as some blocked while the other attacked and vice versa.
"Stupefy!" I called out as a rather powerful ball of magic burst from my wand and knocked out one of the death eaters, my father copying my action.
"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled as Lucius' wand was sent flying from his hand.
"Nice one, James!" My heart broke for Harry as we both looked back at my dad. He wore a smile on his face. It must have felt nice to remember his friend. I looked back at Lucius, thinking I was prepared for his next hit. But I wasn't prepared for hers. I wasn't ready for what happened after my father blasted Lucius away. I wasn't ready for the spell that was fired from Bellatrix's wand, aimed right at him. I hated myself for not seeing it coming. I hated myself for not blocking the curse that killed him - my dad. I wasn't ready for him to suddenly be gone.
There was everything and then there was nothing.
I didn't hear Harry scream out for him. All I felt was Remus grab onto me as I glared at the witch who killed my father. There was nothing I wanted more than to kill her at this very moment. But Remus was holding me back. "Let me go!" I screamed at him, but he didn't budge. Maybe I would feel bad about it in the future, but when I kicked his shins and pushed him away, I felt nothing. Pulling my wand back out, I chased after my cousin as she screamed out, "I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK. I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK." The only thing I felt was pure, furious rage. And I watched revenge. Bellatrix saw this - she saw me and with a smirk, she ran. I chased after her. I chased after my father's murderer.
"CRUCIO!" I screamed as my hand gripped my wand tightly, pointing it at her. She fell to the ground, breathing heavily. I wondered what I looked like at that moment, towering over her with my wand pointed at her face. I wanted nothing more than to see her dead. To be the one that killed her.
"You've got to mean it, Mirabella." I heard a voice speak to me. I glared down at her. Her smile was gone, wiped from her face. "She killed him. She deserves it." I felt the hot tears running down my face. "You know the spell, Mirabella." I heard Harry scream in pain and I turned my head to look at him. He was writing on the ground, Voldemort towering over him. Bellatrix took that second of distraction to disappear. "So weak." The voice in my head spoke. And I agreed with it. One by one, members of the Ministry apparated in. They saw Voldemort, just before he disappeared. They saw him in front of their face.
Today changed everything.
