Maadwoa
"Oh, it was amazing. I had so much fun with him. I tried coffee for the first time. Did you know there are different flavors? His favorite is hazelnut so I said I'd try it too and it was heavenly. I think it's my new love." I gush to my best friends as we sit on Gifty's verandah.
Gifty squeals in excitement with me while Tyler exasperatedly groans, most likely because he is tired of me talking.
"Aw, Maadwoa. That sounds lovely. I'm happy for you." she says excitedly.
"He's teaching my best friend how to drink coffee. What's next? Alcohol?" Tyler questions playfully but we glare at him.
Gifty gives him a pointed look. "At least he is taking her out. Aren't you happy for her?"
He puts his face in his hands with a tiny grin. "Of course I am. Just don't start drinking, Maadwoa."
I narrow my eyes at him, sticking my tongue out teasingly. "I'm an adult now. You can't boss me around anymore."
He rolls his eyes, shoving me on my shoulder. I chuckle at him while Gifty sighs.
"So, you didn't bring any coffee for me to taste?" she questions, crossing her arms jokingly.
I sheepishly smile at her. "Erm, sorry."
"Wow. So cold." she remarks with a pout.
Tyler stands up from the bench and grabs the both of us, pulling us up from the seat. We look up at him, expecting a valid reason for why he just manhandled us like this.
"Erm, do you need us?" I ask, pulling my dress down.
"I'm bored here. Let's go to the park." he suggests.
"And do what?" Gifty questions him.
"Oo, can we play badminton? Please?" I ask, jumping up and down like a child.
Gifty nods excitedly and Tyler shrugs.
"Whatever. I'll still beat you both." he brags, making us punch his shoulders.

Paulina leads the shorter girl through the crowded market of the village. The smell of dry fish enters their noses, provoking both girls to scrunch their noses up in repulsion. Afia Nelson, not accustomed to such settings, swats away the pesky mosquitoes and shoots glares at everyone who tries to sell fish to her. She swerves past people, trying to avoid making physical contact with anyone. Paulina snickers at the shorter girl's actions.
"They are not going to kill you." she informs, bemused.
Afia scoffs, swatting another fly away. "Who knows what this type of filth is capable of?"
They near the exit of the market and Afia sighs in relief. All those people made her feel trapped and suffocated. Paulina grabs Afia's wrist and drags her out of the market. Afia glances at the village folk behind her and sucks her teeth in disappointment.
"They act like animals. It's just fish that they are going crazy over." she insults, wiping the specks of dust off her mini skirt.
Paulina shrugs, kicking pebbles on the dusty ground out of their way as they head towards the small, primitive abode. Afia glances at the rectangular hut ahead of them, scrutinizing it in disdain. She was highly perturbed about how her fiance could stoop so low for someone living in this type of dwelling.
