Gifty and I lay in my bed as we wait for Danny to arrive. Last night, after hours of contemplating and being conflicted about what I should do about Afia, I texted him, telling him to come over today because we have to talk about something important. I did not disclose any information since I thought we should talk in person. He was anxious to find out what I wanted to talk to him about as he kept sending messages, asking what happened but I didn't answer them, telling him to wait until today.

I also texted Tyler in the morning to come over, just for more support. Okay, so maybe I did it to get him and Gifty in the same place at the same time but I just want them to at least have a civil conversation with each other again.

"Is there anything I can eat? I'm hungry." Gifty whines, throwing her phone on my bed.

I sigh and turn my phone off. "Follow me. There's a lot of jollof in the house."

She squeals excitedly and jumps off the bed after me, following me out the door. We walk into the kitchen, where I open the fridge and pull out the large container full of the heavenly jollof rice. Gifty quickly grabs the bowl from my hands with a wide smile on her face while I playfully roll my eyes. Her and food.

"Bless you." she says, grabbing a plate from the cabinet to scoop some rice.

As she waits for the food in the microwave, she looks at me and hums. "So, where's that aunt of yours?"

I roll my eyes at the question. Aunt Nana and I obviously don't have a good relationship but lately, she's been even more hostile. I figured it's because of Danny's frequent visits here; the fact that someone has an interest in me is unbearable to her and she continuously makes remarks about him not having any real interest in me. I ignore her but there's always a very tiny part of me that lets her words get to me.

"Hm, she went to sell some oranges. Hopefully, she doesn't come back until later at night." I tell her.

Gifty scoffs. "Or until next year."

Even though I agree, I narrow my eyes at her. "Gifty!"

"We were both thinking it." she says, making us both laugh.

The timer on the microwave dings and Gifty hurries to grab the food from it. I snort as the heat from the plate burns her palm.

"Because of food." I mutter and she shoots me a glare.

"Leave me alone, food is good."

Before I can respond, a voice interrupts us from outside. "Jojo, I'm here!"  the voice called.

I cheekily smile at Gifty as her face hardens at the voice. Well, hopefully she's not too mad.

"Ty, come inside! In the kitchen." I call as Gifty slaps my shoulder. I wince and hold it in pain as she glares at me.

"Why is he here?" she whispers but I just shrug with a sweet smile.

Tyler walks into the kitchen with a smirk on his face until he sees Gifty, who stands there holding the plate of jollof in her hand with a glare. Tyler wipes the smirk off his face and replaces it with a scowl directed at me.

"You!" he groans, pointing at me.

"What ever did I do?" I ask innocently.

He glances back at Gifty, who stares down at her untouched food to avoid eye contact with him. I swear I could see his eyes smile a bit. Tyler looks back at me and shakes his head as he narrows his eyes at me.

"Never-mind. I want food too." he calls.

I gesture to the fridge. "Help yourself."

Before he makes his way to the fridge, Gifty clears her throat, holding her plate out to him. My eyes widen at the gesture.
