It's been a week since Danny last spoke to or saw Afia. Although that was satisfying to him, it was also a bit worrisome. Afia vowed to keep bothering Maadwoa if he kept hanging out with her, so Danny hasn't physically seen her in a week either. However he has been calling her everyday to make sure she's okay and they have long, sweet phone calls. They have facetimed a couple of times as well, but it's not the same as being with each other. He missed holding her but he doesn't want to risk one of Afia's spies catching him and making another report.
'Yeah and he kinda looks like me too.' Maadwoa says on the other end of the phone.
'Really? How so?'
'Well, his eyes look just like mine and he has one dimple in his right cheek, like me. It's strange, he seems familiar.'
'Maybe he's your long lost twin.'
Maadwoa scoffs. 'Danny, he's eight. How on earth would we be twins?'
'It sounded smarter in my head.'
Her laugh rings in his ears and he finds himself smiling at it. He missed her.
'Enough about me. What have you been up to?'
'But I love listening to you talk.'
'That's sweet but I wanna hear about your life now. Stop being so cheesy.'
The prince chuckles before letting out a sigh.
'Sweetheart, there's nothing going on in my life. It's pretty boring.'
There was a silence on the other end of the line, as Maadwoa was not taking his excuse. She wanted to listen to him talk the same way he listened to her talk. Danny chuckles, realising what the silence meant.
'Well you know my parents left for their little vacation. They're coming back in three days.'
'Are you excited? I bet you missed them.'
He clears his throat, unsure of how to answer that. Did he miss them? Not necessarily. But he was more confused about how Maadwoa was talking to him about his parents so comfortably after what they did to her. It's like she has forgotten all about it.
'I mean, I did enjoy the peace in the house so...'
'So the one chance for us to hang out at your place and you didn't even invite me.'
'You wanted to come here?' he asks in an incredulous tone.
She sheepishly laughs. 'It would have been nice.'
'You know I'd love that but... unfortunate circumstances have prevented that.'
'Yes, I know. I just miss you, that's all.'
'I miss you. And you know I'd take you anywhere your heart desires.'
'And if I said I wanted to go to Paris this instant?'
'I'd say 'Oui, mademoiselle'.'
'So, you know French?'
'Do you like French?'
'I love French.'
'Then yes, I know French.' he lies with a cheesy smile on his face.
'Lies.' she says with a laugh.
'But it made you smile, so it was for a good cause.'
'Oh so you condone lying?'
'Only when it's to make you happy.'
