The farewell was tougher than Alexei thought. Sophie didn't want to leave as she seemed to be having fun with George and Louis.
His uncle wished them good luck, but had a melancholy effect in his eyes. The Grand Duchess also did.
When they had already left the palace, Alexei looked back seeing no one. A part of him was thinking the same thought he had thought so many times with his illness "It's probable that I won't see this again". But this time it wasn't because of his illness, it was... War. Yeah, war. Something where you may never return from.
He looked to Gabri. She probably shared his doubts. But he didn't have the courage to ask her.
Lilth greeted them on their come-back to the camp. The army had grown some numbers, even if a quarter had gone into the conquer of High Saxony.
Pavel had a map on the table and was pointing places and shouting orders in Russian, explaining how they should act during the siege of Berlin.
"When is the attack? Pavel seems to be such in a rush" Gabri said, seeing how the Russian was nervous, combing his hair.
"We're planning to reach Berlin by Saturday morning and attack that same night" Lilth said
"That's four days away" Gabri said
"Enough time" Lilth said "We have lots of reforcements waiting for us"
"Pasha is about to crash something" Alexei said, looking to the light blonde Russian.
"Pasha?" The three women asked
"Russian nicknames" Alexei said "Pasha is the typical nickname for Pavels" He sighed "Like Alyosha is mine. They can also be separate names"
"It's a girl's name, Pasha is a girl's name" Sophie sang "And Alyosha also seems a girl's name"
"Well, she hasn't seen that photo..." Gabri remarked the "that" and looked to Alexei. The boy seemed to understand.
"If she keeps with the thing that my nickname is a girl's name, that photo would be the last thing I would show her" Alexei mumbled
"Yeah, Alyosha" Gabri said, hugging him from behind "That's definetely the last thing you should show her"
"Can I ask you something?" Alexei whispered "In private"
They got out of the camp, until they were far from them.
"What did you want to ask?" Gabri asked
"Well... Have you ever thought..." His voice trailed off "about the fact that we may not return from war?" He said it really quickly, the little silence had been too uncomfortable.
"Actually, I have" Gabri said. She put her arm on his shoulders.
"And?" He asked "You think we'll make it?"
"I do" She said "We'll be back" She took Alexei's face in her hands and turned him to face her "Alive"
"You're so sure... I don't know how you do it. I can't" He said
"And I'm not sure. I believe it" She said "Because I'm going to do whatever is possible for us to be back alive"
He looked into her eyes. She was so determined.
Gabri smiled "I love you, that's the reason I'm determined to bring us back alive"
He smiled "If that's why you're determined, I trust your judgement" He kissed her lips "Because I love you too"
Gabri smiled and brought him back. But Alexei took advantage and kissed her first. She tasted really sweet, in his opinion.
"We should be going" She said, breaking the kiss
"Yes, we should" He muttered
