I'm glad you read this far. Thank you for investing your time. I love you! Good bye!
—————————————————————-
You were having breakfast in the kitchen with your brother there. He was talking with Jungkook about what you guys will be doing in the next phase of your life."We'll get married. That's all I'm thinking of, right now." He said holding on to the hand you weren't using as you ate. You smiled goofily and tightened your grip on his hand in endearment. If this was a cartoon your eyes would give out hearts everywhere and your insides would be singing in joy.
"You guys are too cute it's disgusting." Your brother teased you with a poker face.
Neither of you let go of the other's hand you just kept on looking deep into each other's eyes like no one was talking. You were seeing the future. He was there with you and you were there with him. The surroundings were blurry because you were the only two that mattered right here, right now.
"Guys?" Paul repeated. "Guys, I'll burn the house down." He said.
"Sure.." you mumbled.
"I'll buy Alaska, too."
"That would be cool.." Jungkook said hazily.
"Hey, you fuckers. Snap out of it!" Paul clapped hard he snatched you out of the trance you guys were in.
"Sorry, Hyung." Jungkook said as he played with the cereal in front of him after he broke eye contact with you. He didn't want to eat food, right now. He wanted to devour your lips.
"Sorry, Hyung." Paul repeated sarcastically. "Can't believe I'm witnessing this cheese festival." He said as he took his plate and washed it.
"Sorry, oppa." You said with puppy eyes.
"Don't you have a flight to catch?" He said as he looked at the time.
"We missed it." Jungkook said as he stood up to wash your plate and his.
"I'm not even going to ask why." Paul poured you three coffee to drink. "Shall I book you another one, now?" Paul said taking out his phone.
"No." You said suddenly.
"What?" Jungkook said surprised.
"I never got to visit Gaven's grave, Paul. I want to do this before I go on with everything. That's all the closure I need, now."
Jungkook stopped mid way as he was about to drink his coffee. He was wondering about what you were saying. The last time he remembers anything about your brother was that he was still alive. Paul whipped a sharp look at Jungkook before he could utter a word.
"The grave's not here, Cathy." Paul said as carefully as he could. "It'd be best to go back to Korea and get to meet your fiancé's family."
"It's fine, I have 10 days before my awards show in New York, anyways. I don't think it would take more than a day to get to where his grave is. Then, I'll have 6 days at least for me to meet his family and bond. Right, Kookie?" You said with a stable tone. You looked at him waiting for his agreement to find him nodding hesitantly.
"He's not here, Cathy." Paul said assertively.
"I know he isn't. Where is his grave?" You said in curbed anger.
"He's in Greenland." Paul said.
"What? Why would you bury him in a place he's never gone to?" By that time your mother's words started to make way inside your head. You gripped the cup and Jungkook held your hand. He knew it was coming.
"It's about time, Cathy. You're embarking on a new phase of your life and it's only suitable that you close on the past chapters. You started that a long while ago. Let me slowly get it closer to its final closure." Paul sighed, "Gaven's not really dead." He admitted. You weren't shocked. You took it way calmer than you thought.
"Wait, so that actually happened? I wasn't dreaming when Na Ri said that? She sent him away because of his illness?" You said in frustration. "That bitch!"
"That's not it. That was Gaven's wish. After he recovered from his episode following dad's passing, he went for Na Ri to help him with that. He wanted nothing to do with the family and its legacy. Na Ri wasn't into the idea. She fought it. But he insisted. Your mom's skills to break the law without getting caught came in handy. She faked his death. He changed his name, life, and everything. He hasn't had contact with any of us since then. I didn't know anything myself. Until last year's Christmas. He sent a small card with him and his family on it. He mentioned that he's a father to a 2 year old girl and that he haven't had an episode in who knows how long. He owns a small construction company there. I haven't heard of him, since. The letter didn't have anything about his new last name or where he could be found. I'm sorry to say that."
You started crying. You cried uglily. Jungkook held you in his embrace.
"He's happy? Healthy? He has a baby girl? Does she look like me? I bet he named her after me, right?" You kept on weeping with tears of utter comfort and joy.
"Actually she looks a lot like Na Ri." Paul teased you.
"Shut the fuck up!" You laughed.
Paul took out his wallet and took out the small card for you to see.
"Ahhh.. she looks just like me when I was a baby!" You said laughing through the tears. You turned the card around to find.
'I named her Catherine. The boy will be named Paul. He's on the way.'
You we're consumed with peace. He would've never been able to do all this if he didn't get out of this house. You can't blame him. You did the same. You wished you could see his family, hear his voice, hear his babies' voices as the scream your name. You wanted to take the first airplane to him but you knew him better than that. As long as he's happy, you're happy. You felt Jungkook's lips on your head as he looked at the picture of Gaven's family. Gaven is Jungkook's same age.
"You should show me your baby photos, Kae!" Jungkook said as he tightened his embrace around you.
"I looked like an absolute hobo." You said still staring at the card.
"Oh she did! Let me show you." Paul stood up to fetch the photo album.
"Paul! Don't you dare!" You ran after him but Jungkook held you by the wrist.
"Don't worry, I'll show you mine." He said as he pulled you away and ran after Paul. You jumped on his back in a laughing roar and he piggybacked you. You were happy. You were ecstatic. You were where you're supposed to be and where you want to be.
You weren't black; you weren't white
You were red and violet bright
Seen blood in the past
Will see love in the future
You weren't either or
You were the whole rainbow
You thought life would give you less
But here she gave you more
Let the years of agony end now
Start on these years of love without thinking how
You found love
So, rest here, dove.
