Alaric's POV

I almost marked her, I couldn't believe what almost happened. I was still in shock and filled with so much regret that I couldn't be in that room for a moment more. If she had come any closer my wolf would have climbed right out of me to mark her. It wasn't just the fact that I almost marked her it was also the fact that in that small moment. The small moment when she screamed my name and pushed with everything she had to... get me off of her I realized just how physically weak she really was how fragile she really was. If anything were to happen or if..if the goddess forbade that someone tried to do something to Clover she wouldn't be able to.

No, no, I shook my head, she had her wolf if she needed to she could rip anyone apart... and even though I knew that her scared voice yelling my name wouldn't stop echoing in my head and I couldn't get the feeling of her small hands off of my skin as they tried to push me away.

"Damn it!" I screamed as I stopped in the middle of a hallway and punched the wall, putting my fist through it. The fist that Clover had, just a moment again, tried to fix. Damn it! How the hell was I going to be able to keep Clover safe from these threats if I couldn't even protect her from myself!?

"Problems in paradise?" I heard someone say next to me. I turned my head to see Brett leaning up against the wall examining the hole I had made.

"Shut the hell up!" I yelled at him as I took my fist out of the wall and proceeded to walk away from him. He always seemed to show up when I least wanted to see him.

"Well, I guess the hole in the wall answers my question anyways." I turned around and threw a punch at Brett, but he moved out of the way just in time and now there were two holes in the wall.

"Seriously Alaric what happened?" He asked and my breathing began to get heavier and heavier as the moments flashed through my head making me relive it all.

"Fuck! Brett! What do you want!?" He didn't move and the small smile that was once on his face slipped away as he became more serious.

"The truth Alaric... what happened, I haven't seen you this worked up since we got the last note. Even after we got that note you haven't been this worked up since Clover got here."

"Damn it Brett I almost marked her!" He didn't say anything at first, but he raised his eyebrow at me.

"Okay? Are you not allowed to? Did you guys talk about this?" I sighed and put my back against the wall and slid down to the floor putting my head in my hands.

"We talked about it and agreed after her initiation day into the pack....She wasn't ready, she tried to stop me, but I didn't hear her." I stopped talking for a moment as I sulked in my mistake and Brett just waited for me to continue.

"Brett, she's so weak... when she tried to push me off of her I barely felt it, I knew she had her wolf to protect her, but... I just didn't realize how physically weak she really was. If-if something were to happen if the person that's sending those threats finally follows through on everything they've been saying I-."

"Hey stop, you can't think like that. You might not see it right now, but Clover is definitely strong; she'll be a great Luna to the pack. Just like you are a great Alpha, you'll protect her. I know you will, that's just the kind of guy you are. I know there is nothing you won't do to protect her. And if, and I'm putting a huge emphasis on "if" the bastard that has been sending those threats follows through with anything he's been talking about we are ready for anything. The pack is strong."

I heard what Brett was saying, but I still couldn't push off the feelings of guilt and shame from what had just happened.

"So, where is our dear Luna?" Brett asked as he began looking down the hall as if he was expecting her to come running down after me.

"In our room, I told the warriors not to let her leave." When I told Brett that his whole demeanor changed and he slowly turned his head back to me looking at me with wide eyes.

"You did what?! You locked her in your room after you ran out on her?! Do you hear what's coming out of your mouth right now?"

"I'm an awful mate aren't I..." I put my head back down into my hands in failure.

"Hey you said it, not me, but ya you kind of are. I would definitely wait to go back there unless you want a war on your hands. Let her cool off and you go for a damn run and cool you hide. Goddess, do I have to do all the work around here?!" Brett yelled as he stood up from the ground and began to walk away from me.

"Hey, Brett!" I called after him.

"Ya I know I'm the best beta and you're sorry for hitting me earlier." I laughed as I watched Brett leave and I got up myself. I took a deep breath in and out and began to make my way to the woods for a run.
