3 a.m. on a rooftop

By the time you notice it's already midnight. You spent the whole day shut in your bedroom, barely even ate anything. Your mind is filled with confusion, unanswered questions. You have been trying to avoid your phone, but you finally give in and check your messages. Loads from Blake

"Well, can't say I didn't expect that."

Another couple random dm's from the girls. You lay on your bed staring at the ceiling as hours tick by. Your phone vibrates

Hey! Just wanted to check in on you. I saw Blake, he wasn't very happy, is everything ok? You can come over if you feel like it... It was from Zack.

"I could do with some company, why not"

Hey, thanks. I'm on my way.

You put on an oversized hoodie and some sweat shorts. 1:40 am. Your parents are fast asleep, you sneak out the window and pick up your skateboard.

"Zack's house is about a 15 minute skate, it's kind of far..."

You put in your earphones, blast some music, and get going.

When you arrive at Zack's you text him.

I'm here.

He comes out the back door and guides you into the house. His bedroom is small but cozy, on the second floor. His window is open and he jumps onto his roof. You look at him.

"C'mon!"

You end up following him to the rooftop. You stare up at the starry sky, he's writing something on a notebook.

"So, how are you feeling?". Comes Zack's calm voice, you look at his dimly lit face.

Such a simple question, though so meaningful, you look away.

"If you want to vent I'll listen, if you don't I'll keep you company..."

His words give you a weird sense of comfort and for the first time in hours your mind seems at peace. You're grateful that Zack doesn't want to know what happened between you and Blake. You spend around and hour together, under the moon. He's still writing, and occasionally looks up at the stars, the empty roads or at you. His kind hazel eyes glistening with moonlight.

"Feel better?"

You nod. The night is warm, silent, calm, only interrupted by the causal stirring of the breeze.

"I should get going..." you say, even though you feel like you could stay there for the rest of eternity.

He smiles and replies.

"I'll take you home".

You both skate together to your place. Zack hugs you.

"Sleep well."

You climb back in through your window and drift off to sleep.
