For old time's sake

You wake up the next day to the sound of your alarm, not even remembering falling asleep. You glance at the mirror in your bathroom. Your eyes are still red and puffy but you have to go to school.

You skate alone today and meet your friends at the school entrance. Kaiden isn't there thankfully, you can't stand seeing his face that early in the morning. You try to focus on school throughout the day, to take your mind off Kaiden. Unfortunately, this turns out to be harder than you thought.

"Delilah? Can you answer the question?"

You feel someone's elbow hit you lightly on the ribs and you snap out of your thoughts.

"Oh sorry, uh, what was the question?"

Your maths teacher gives you a disapproving glare and you just look down at your textbook. The bell rings soon after.

"Delilah Wood, I'd like you to stay back for a minute."

You stop dead in your tracks, you can't get in trouble, your parents will kill you.

"I've noticed you haven't been very focused lately, I hope you realize that your grades will suffer if you keep up this behavior. I expect more from you."

You nod and leave for lunch, you have been dreading this moment. You'll have to see Kaiden face to face. You discretely look at the table where you usually sit deciding what the seat farther from him is. But after a while you can't spot his fluffy brown hair, you find this very odd.

"Easier for me then..." you think to yourself grateful.

You sit next to Blake and Harley and try your best to enjoy the conversation.

"Wanna come over and play some video games?" Blake asks you. "For old time's sake?"

You think about it for a second, and then reply.

"Sure, I could use a distraction."

He smiles and hugs you goodbye. The rest of the day was quite uneventful and after school you and Blake skate together to his place. You have a really fun time actually, it feels nice to be back in good terms with your best friend. You manage not to think of Kaiden and just relax. There is still a voice at the back of your head however, wondering why he didn't go to school that day.
