The weekend comes around and homework has piled up. But you still manage to sneak in a bit of time with the girls without your parents noticing. You decide to go to the mall to get some clothes for the cooler weather. It's a really good trip to the shops, you a get some pretty good outfits and you have some ice cream. Suddenly your phone rings: Mom.
"Ugh what does she want?" You think and pick up.
"Hey mom, I'm with friends right now what is it?"
"Hi, sweetie, just wanted to let you know that we are having guests over! Just be home by seven!"
"Fine, bye." you hang up.
At 6:30 p.m. you leave the mall and you head home.
"Ah damn it, I forgot my keys."
You knock on the door and are confronted with the tall figure of Blake Callahan. You keep eye contact for an uncomfortably long time. Until you dodge him and get in, saying nothing.
"Delilah? Can you help me in the kitchen, please?"
"I gotta finish some school work." you lie "I think Blake would love to help, though." You give him a fake smile "wouldn't you?"
You go to your room and put some music on. Blake is the last person you'd want to see at that moment. Dinner with Blake and his family goes by ok, a couple border line mean comments but nothing much. You sneak back into your room as soon as you can and go back to music.
You hear a knock on the door.
"What?" You ask.
Blake comes in, you sit up straight, studying him. He leans against your desk
"I think we should talk..." he starts.
"Save your breath, I'm not changing my mind."
"Just listen ok?" You roll your eyes. "When Lopez and his girlfriend broke up, she left the school. It was said that they were involved with drugs, so she decided to transfer schools."
"Well, as far as we know that's just a high school rumor."
"I guess so, I'm just worried for you, Lilah..."
"I can take care of myself, I'm not a little kid anymore Blake. You can't just keep me inside this bubble."
You can't stand looking him in the eyes.
"I know, I shouldn't have tried to in the first place... I'm sorry... Friends?" He holds out his hand.
"I'll think about it." You reply dryly.
He looks slightly disappointed but says no more.
